2022 Golf Outing

Thank you to everyone who made our golf outing such a success. Support from the community helps us keep our vital services open for those in need. A special thank you to David Greenberg for doing such an awesome job as the MC for our event and Mayor Tom McNamara for his support of our services

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Since 2001, Sexual Assault Awareness Month has been observed in April, however supporters have used their voices long before that. Support was also shown by wearing teal on April 5th as a Day of Action.

Stuffed Animal and Sock Drive

During April, a drive was held with the goal to provide each child that enters our shelter a stuffed "pal" and a pair of fuzzy socks in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.  

Community Outreach

Kathy Brannning, our VP of Fund Development and Marketing, gave an overview of Remedies' services, history and locations during the Leadership Rockford event at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See County Club.

Alcohol Awareness Month

Alcohol addiction claims thousands of lives across the country each yearMore than 65 million Americans report binge drinking or heavy drinking in a one-month period, which is more than 40% of those who drink alcohol. In addiction, teen alcohol use kills 4,300 people each year, more than all illegal drugs combined and in 2019, there were 10,142 alcohol related driving fatalities, totaling 28% of all traffic fatalities for the year.

Denim Day

April 27th is a day to show support for survivors by wearing denim.  Millions across the world wore denim to bring awareness to end sexual assault and victim blaming.  

Mental Health Awareness Month

May was Mental Health Awareness Month. This year's theme was "Together for Mental Health" and is a time to bring our voices together to advocate for mental health care and access.

Movers for Moms

Thank you Two Men and a Truck Rockford for all the donations through their annual Movers for Mom program to benefit our domestic violence shelter. Two Men and a Truck locations across the country collect donations every spring and deliver them to local women’s and family shelters on or before Mother’s Day. A special thank you as well to all the businesses and donors who supported the event.

National Fentanyl Awareness Day

May 10th was the first ever National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Fentanyl contributes to more deaths of Americans under 50 than any other cause of death. This includes heart disease, cancer, and all other accidents.

Two of our domestic violence staff were featured discussing the impact of emotional abuse on children with WTVO's David Greenberg. One in fifteen children in the United States have unfortunately been exposed to intimate partner violence.  

Meeting the Need

We've all heard about the baby formula shortage we are currently experiencing. As a 24/7 emergency domestic violence shelter, this effected our ability to provide for those who may come come through our doors. Thanks to the Northern Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics who donated baby formula to our shelter, we now have a greater supply.  

Pride Month

In June, we celebrate the right that everyone has to be who they truly feel they are and who they are with.  Everyone deserves to be treated fairly, equally and feel safe. We are committed to serving all those in need with respect. 

Donation Request

We are in need of underwear and bras for our shelter. Gently used bras are welcome, but underwear must be new.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

June 15th is a day to bring awareness to this unfortunate issue. Approximately 𝟭 in 𝟲 people 60 years and older unfortunately have experience some form of abuse in the last year and that stat is expected to increase.

National PTSD Month

June is National PTSD Awareness Month. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can occur when a person experiences a dangerous or scary event such as a violent assault, accident or war. There are many experiences that can result in PTSD and symptoms can include flashbacks and bad dreams.

Juneteenth

June 19th is a day for all Americans to celebrate the end of slavery in the United States. This day became a nationally recognized holiday in 2021 to commemorate such an important event in our country's history.

Community Support

Versona, a women's appeal store located inside Cherry Valley Mall, has been a regular donor to our domestic violence shelter. At least a few times a year, they graciously donate boxes of new items and donated for our 2022 golf outing. Thanks, Versona!
