Message from Jerry+

Thank you, good people of St Francis, for the very warm and helpful welcome you have given me in these days. I was delighted to meet and speak with many of you despite the complications of COVID and look forward to getting to know you better.

Times of transition are always difficult. Annette and I moved eight times in our 21 years in the Air Force and each move presented challenges and frustrations. Yet every move also gave us the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy new places.

St Francis now faces an important period of transition, not only in a search for a new Rector, but also as we rediscover how to “be church” coming out of the pandemic. As we return to in-person worship, please be prepared that things will not be as they once were. They never are. The philosopher Heraclitus said: “You never step in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and you are not the same person.” We can never go back to exactly the way things were, but we can draw on our heritage and our hope that God will propel us into a new future.

I look forward to walking with you on this journey. Be patient with one other. Pray for your church. Love one another. And surely God will be with us.

Message from Jude+

Here we are at the end of April! Last year at this time, the days seemed to run into one another and rolled along. I don’t know about you, but this year April seemed to gallop, accelerating into May and June, as we move into Mother’s Day, Pentecost, Memorial Day, Graduations, Baccalaureate, Father’s Day and Summer! Not to mention events in our personal lives and in the world! Whew!

So, maybe during this week, midway through the Easter Season, we can take the time to breathe and intentionally slow down a bit, to make room and time for God.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me;
For I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls
[Matthew 11:30]
Some things to note for May
  • May 3-4 - Clergy Conference - Jerry+ and I will be away from the office
  • May 9 - Mother’s Day - Preachers: Lauren Sams, Chloe Dowling; Readers: Senior Youth
  • May 23 - Pentecost Service at 10a.m.; PLUS, an Evening Covid Memorial at 5p.m. in the St Francis Garden. More information to follow.

Remember to Reserve Your Place for Sunday Worship!

  • To attend the service you must reserve a place in advance so that we can manage social distancing and keep records as per Diocesan rules.
  • Click here to make your reservation. Please read details of our safety precautions when you reserve your place. Note - you don't need to print a paper ticket. We have an electronic record we refer to on Sunday mornings.
  • If you have problems with the online system please contact Mary in the church office - 310 375 4617.
  • Livestreamed worship will still continue - indefinitely - to take our mission out beyond our walls, and to those who cannot, or do not wish to attend in person. Our at-home congregation are loved and appreciated and not forgotten!

Drive-through Holy Communion
We will no longer be offering this. Instead, please contact Kristina Pelá to arrange for a lay Eucharistic Minister to safely bring you communion.
Meanwhile, Rev. Jude, together with lay leaders, continues to offer opportunities for faith, connection and pastoral care, as below.
Please don't hesitate to contact her by email, phone, text 310-701-5966, or in person, with questions/prayers/requests/ideas for other groups or practices. We deeply want to continue to support all of our church family as we navigate these 'in-between' times with regard to the pandemic, and as we move forward into a new normal.
