Remembrance Day: Animals in War
On Remembrance Day, as we remember the brave men and women who have fought for our country, we also think of the animals who have played their part in fighting for freedom.
Remembering Animals in War
Throughout history, animals have played important roles in wars and the fight for freedom. Dogs, horses, mules, birds, and many other animals have been given crucial jobs to do alongside humans. On November 11th, we remember their efforts and sacrifices.
The beautiful Animals in War Dedication in Confederation Park in Ottawa commemorates the valuable contributions of animals. It was created by Canadian artist David Clendining in 2012 (click here for a short video of the dedication ceremony). You can read more about the Animals in War Dedication and see more photos at the Veterans Affairs Canada website and the Animals in War Dedication Project website.

Long-Term Spotlight: Marshmallow
Some of our adoptable animals have been with us for quite some time and have been waiting patiently at the shelter or in foster care for their families to find them. We can't wait for them to find the loving forever homes they so deserve!
Marshmallow (officially "Toasted Marshmallow of Sussex") is such a great bunny! He is just under a year old and was sadly found abandoned on the side of the road. He has fully recovered from the minor injuries he had. He is more than ready to put his past behind him and looks forward to a wonderful future with a loving family! Marshmallow was a timid guy when he first arrived, but he has really come out of his shell since moving into foster care. He's a social butterfly who becomes fast friends with everyone. He is very active, and loves to zoom around, play, and explore his surroundings. He also loves apple chips, bananas, and greens (click the links for videos!), and is very food motivated. He enjoys games and puzzles involving food. Marshmallow is a happy boy who spreads joy wherever he goes! This video really sums up his energy and wonderful personality! Marshmallow is very well behaved and has great litter box habits. He is a large breed bunny, so he will need an extra-large exercise pen or bunny proof bedroom as his home base. He can be adopted to bond to a shy or nervous spayed female bunny, or he can go home solo to a person or family who will give him lots of love and attention. His $40 adoption fee includes his neuter, RHDV vaccination, and vet exam. Marshmallow can't wait to become a beloved member of his new family!

TURKEY
This beautiful boy is Turkey! He is an adult Siberian husky mix. Turkey is a little shy when you first meet him, but after spending a bit of time with him, he will show his funny and very loveable side! His adopter(s) will understand the husky breed and be committed to providing Turkey with lots of opportunities to run and get his energy out. He will benefit from training and structure. Turkey's perfect forever home has a fully fenced yard, no children under twelve, and no cats. He would love a friendly female dog in the home for companionship. Turkey will be a loyal best friend to his new people, and he can't wait to be part of a loving family! To welcome him home, please click the Adopt Me button on his profile to begin the adoption application process. Let's help Turkey find the forever home of his dreams!

STORMI & CHANG
Meet the delightful pair of Stormi and Chang! Stormi is a three-year-old male, and Chang is a four-year-old female. Stormi is very confident and loves to be close to his trusted people. He's a very friendly boy and loves to be petted all over. Chang is more reserved. She is very gentle and also enjoys being petted and staying close to her people, but she's less likely to ask for attention. These two are lovely cats, and will bring so much love and joy to their new home! To make them yours forever, please click the Adopt Me buttons on Stormi's profile and Chang's profile to begin the adoption application process. They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together, so please submit both applications. They can't wait to settle into their forever home with their new family!

MATILDA
This super cute bunny is Matilda! She's about ten months old, and is a New Zealand/lop mix. Sadly, Matilda was found abandoned at Brock University with several other animals, but she is ready to put her past behind her and have a fresh start in a loving home! She is very sweet, and is happy to be petted by her trusted people (see videos here and here). Matilda would love to be adopted to bond to a calm and confident neutered male bunny, and having a partner will help her build confidence and be more brave. Alternatively, she can go home solo to a family who will give her lots of attention. Matilda is medium to large in size, so she will need an extra-large dog exercise pen or a bunny-proof bedroom as her home base. Her adoption fee of $40 includes her spay, RHDV vaccine, and vet check. To make Matilda the newest member of your family, please click the Adopt Me button on her profile to begin the adoption application process. She's looking forward to starting her new life with a loving family!
