Our community mourns Barbara Krinitz, a prolific JAM community producer, former CATV board member, energetic volunteer for many local arts organizations, and dear friend. We learned of Barbara's passing last Friday, December 5.
Moving to the area from New York City years ago, Barbara created an extraordinary documentary record of the Upper Valley. She captured hundreds of musical performances and colorful local characters, including the late balloonist Brian Boland in her series Hidden in Plain Sight: Treasures of the Upper Valley and Dave Clark of Yellow House Music performing with Rob Oxford at Anonymous Coffeehouse. Find countless priceless videos in Barbara's series Have You Heard? (2013-17), with viral video of South Africa artist Johnny Clegg at the Lebanon Opera House in 2014 (14K views!), Blues master Guy Davis, local legends Brooks Hubbard, and many more.
Barbara was truly a Treasure of the Upper Valley herself, hidden in plain sight. She preferred to stay behind the camera, but we wish we had captured her as she captured so many others in our community with her loving, curious gaze. The closest we got was this 2024 Tribute to Barbara Krinitz (9/28/24) at the Anonymous Coffeehouse celebrating Barbara's contributions to preserving the Upper Valley's musical history, along with Chad Finder.
We express our deepest condolences for Barbara's family and loved ones, and we will miss her greatly.

Barbara’s far reaching program “THE MAGIC’S IN THE MUSIC” constitutes an archive of live music in the Upper Valley, with interviews of local musicians in series that include “Songwriting,” “Road Stories,” “Music and Activism,” “Musical Training,” “The Power of Music.”

Barbara documented brief and punchy stories from beloved community members in her “THREE MINUTE TALES” series, ranging from interviewing Peggy Allen on the birth of the Junction Fiber Mill, Pat Autilio on building a calliope organ during the pandemic to Adam Sorscher on the Anonymous Coffeehouse.
| | |
For years, Barbara recorded the Anonymous Coffeehouse, a free live music venue featuring three musical acts each show. It was yet another way Barbara engaged with the community and documented the local artistry that makes the Upper Valley unique.
