When Dr. Anthony R. Volpe passed away last month at age 87, many at RSDM knew him as “Uncle Tony,’’ an alumni and donor who was deeply involved in the school, a fixture at convocations and White Coat Ceremonies, where he made it a point to remember each student’s name. But in addition to being a great friend of the dental school and volunteer faculty, Dr. Volpe was also a groundbreaker in the fields of dental research and public health. LEARN MORE

Exploring Impact of Covid-19 on Africa's Children
Twice a year since 2013, Dr. Modupe Coker has been travellng to Nigeria for clinical research on HIV and its connection to dental caries, which she views as a window into learning more about the disease. Central to her work has been a cohort of over 500 children and their HIV-infected mothers. Dr. Daniel Kadouri researches the disease-fighting potential of predatory bacteria—microbes that devour germs immune to antibiotics.
