The Law Society is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Phyllis A. Smith, KC. Phyllis served as a Bencher from 1981 to 1991 and was the first woman to serve as President in the Law Society’s history.
“Phyllis was only the second woman to be elected as a Bencher and was both a leader and a respected member of Alberta’s legal community throughout her distinguished career,” says current President, Deanna Steblyk, KC. “Among other things, Phyllis will be remembered for her many contributions to the Law Society while a Bencher and then as President.”
We extend our sympathy to Phyllis’s loved ones, friends and colleagues who are impacted by this loss. Please read Phyllis’s obituary on the Emery Jamieson LLP website honouring the accomplishments of this exemplary member of our community.
