When Town Square opened its doors in 2012, Leslie Trewyn was one of the first people to walk through our front doors. Our community center was untested. It was ambitious. It was, some said, a crazy idea.
But Leslie did not hesitate for a moment, and, along with Tom Detwyler, became one of the first supporters of Town Square. She held exhibits. She taught classes. She led a group of artists who painted banners to decorate the town. That is the kind of person that Leslie was.
We believe that Leslie's energy and kindness and creativity still resonates through Town Square. She has been an inspiration to us, as we know she has been to the so many people who she touched.
We are incredibly honored to host
“Leslie Trewyn: A Retrospective” at Green Lake Town Square during the month of June, presented by Leslie's family and curated by her son, Andy. The gallery exhibit features works spanning the art career of the late Ms. Trewyn, and includes many of her favorite pieces.
The Town Square display will be open to the public from
9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday and 9:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturdays
through June 30. A memorial service and gathering of Ms. Trewyn’s friends of family will take place on Friday, June 23 from Noon until 5:00 pm at the Leslie Trewyn Studio, 388 Lake Street in Green Lake.
Ms. Trewyn grew up in De Pere, Wisconsin, and earned a degree in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Ms. Trewyn’s work is exhibited nationally and has been part of numerous large exhibits throughout the country, including Coconut Grove Festival of the Arts, Chicago Old Town Art Fair and Ann Arbor Street Fair.
In creating personal, original art, Ms. Trewyn found fulfillment in both the process and the product. “When I paint,” she said, “It’s about as close to Paradise as there is.”
