Dear Impact Experience community,
Today, as we pause to remember the legacy of service embodied by Dr. Martin Luther King, we are moved to share some exciting updates and opportunities ahead. We are looking forward to a full year of experiences related to equity across healthcare, asset management, environmental systems and education. If you, or your organization, is interested in participating in or sponsoring an Impact Experience across these themes, please reach out.
Additionally, we are eager to share with you a few updates. There is an opportunity to support Mrs. Josephine McCall, a regular Impact Experience contributor, and the foundation supporting her father’s legacy. Please find a summary and links below. We are also pleased to share with you a recent report out of the Knight Foundation Diversity of Asset Managers Research Series. The findings support our work to champion the need for greater diversity within the asset management industry.
Lastly, we are thrilled to announce a new addition to our team! Layli Miller-Muro, founder and former Executive Director of the Tahirih Justice Center, will be joining Impact Experience as our first Author In Residence. Layli’s tireless fight for justice on behalf of women and girls worldwide will be a valued contribution to our work.
We look forward to being in touch with you in the near future and send our best wishes for a wonderful year ahead!
With love and gratitude,
The Impact Experience Team

The legacy of Dr. King’s lifetime of service inspires our work at Impact Experience. Today we reflect on Dr King’s quotation, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” At Impact Experience, our work is focused on building bridges across differences and aspiring to operationalize Dr. King’s dream of creating a beloved community.

Supporting The Elmore Bolling Initiative
|
|
The Elmore Bolling Initiative was founded by Josephine Bolling McCall to preserve the legacy of her father, Elmore Bolling, who was lynched at the age of 39 in Lowndes County, Alabama in 1947. Bolling’s successful businesses had begun to change Jim Crow repression, elevating Bolling and fellow black laborers to higher economic levels. He was lynched because “he was too prosperous as a Negro,” according to the
NAACP.
McCall is a frequent presenter at Impact Experiences.

Asset Management Industry Severely Lacking Diversity, New Knight Foundation Study Finds; Signals Untapped Opportunity For Investors
|
|
- The research affirms for a third time in four years that there is no statistically significant difference in the performance of these diverse-owned asset management firms and their peers. The investment performance of firms owned by women and people of color is empirically indistinguishable from majority white, male-owned or -led firms.
- Taking a longer view, not much has changed over the past decade. There has been only a 0.1% increase in AUM entrusted to diverse-owned asset management firms since 2011.
- The amount of assets managed by diverse-owned firms still pales in comparison to that managed by their less-diverse peers: nearly 99% of all assets under management remain in the hands of white, male-led firms.
- Diverse-owned firms manage fewer, smaller funds than their non-diverse peers.
