REMEMBERING MARCEL MIERNIK

With a heavy heart, Fencers Club is deeply saddened to share the news that Marcel Miernik died on January 6, 2025. Marcel was a long time and beloved member of the Fencers Club, fencing on the U.S. 1957 World Championship Foil Team, and earning a Silver medal at the 2010 Veteran World Championships.
Marcel was a beautifully talented fencer, competing in both foil and epee.  His movements conveyed a seeming effortlessness.
He captained the Brooklyn College fencing team, competed both in the U.S. and abroad, and was a member of the U.S. delegation bringing the World Championships to Philadelphia in 1958.
Marcel represented the U.S. in many international events, including the first one held in Russia in 2009. He was known to graciously share his knowledge and experiences with young fencers, serving both as a college and high school fencing coach.
Marcel leaves his mark as an extraordinary person with a generous heart and constant twinkle in his eye. Even greater than his accomplishments on the fencing strip, he was known for his devotion to his son, his daughter, and their families.
We extend our condolences. We will miss Marcel dearly but will remember him forever. He was one of the best to ever wear a fencing uniform.
