Remembering Our Heroes: A Memorial Day Tribute from

Greater LA Scouting

This Memorial Day weekend, Scouts from across the Greater Los Angeles Scouting community came together in a powerful show of unity and gratitude. From cities, suburbs, and neighborhoods across our council, Scouts of all ages stood side by side to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

With flags in hand and reverence in their hearts, these young leaders paid tribute to our fallen heroes, those who gave their lives so we could live in freedom. Through ceremonies, flag placements, and moments of reflection, Scouts demonstrated the core values of duty, honor, and respect.

In this shared moment of remembrance, we are reminded: we are the Home of the Free because of the Brave. May we never forget their courage, and may we always remember, recognize, and respect their sacrifice.

If your unit participated in Memorial Day events, please feel free to share your photos with Cicily Gardea, Marketing and Communications Director.

Shaving for a Cause: LAFD Explorers Support

Childhood Cancer Research

In a powerful show of solidarity and service, LAFD Explorers joined forces for the annual St. Baldrick’s event in Porter Ranch, hosted by the Los Angeles City Fire and Police Departments, to support childhood cancer research.

Each year, Explorers from Posts 64, 81, and 106 volunteer their time and energy to assist with setup, organizing, and even cooking breakfast. But their most impactful gesture? Shaving their heads in support of children battling cancer.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to funding research for childhood cancer cures, has made head-shaving a tradition to symbolize unity and compassion. By going bald, these young leaders stand shoulder to shoulder with the kids they’re fighting for.

Thank you to our LAFD Explorers for your continued commitment to making a difference. Your actions speak louder than words, and your support brings hope to countless families.

2025 Business Leaders’ Breakfast

Wednesday, June 25 | 7:00–9:00 AM

The Jonathan Club | Downtown Los Angeles

Join us for an inspiring morning alongside more than 200 of Los Angeles’ leading business, civic, and philanthropic figures at the 2025 Business Leaders’ Breakfast.

The program will feature a special fireside chat moderated by Craig S. Meyer, President of JLL Industrial Americas, offering valuable insight into the logistics and real estate sectors shaping LA’s economic future.

Serving as emcee for the morning is Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and proud mother of Eagle Scouts. With her extensive background in leadership and workforce development, Maria will guide the program with perspective and purpose.

This year, we are proud to recognize Charlie P. Smith, Senior Managing Director at JLL, for over 25 years of outstanding leadership in real estate and his lasting impact on the Los Angeles community.

The Business Leaders’ Breakfast is more than a gathering, it’s a celebration of leadership, vision, and the values that drive Scouting’s mission to prepare the next generation.
