Her idea helped those unable to visit the Virginia grave site or the library (originally planned for Cambridge, MA) to engage with part of JFK's history. Since its opening by President Jimmy Carter in October 1979, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum on Columbia Point in Boston remains a vital institution, preserving and interpreting Kennedy's remarkable life and career.
