Dear friends and neighbors,

Monday marked seven years since our happy town of Orlando was the site of an act of gun violence and terrorism. We will never forget the 49 angels we lost at Pulse nightclub and the 53 who were injured. Our Central Florida community will continue to reject hate and make sure that love defines our region.
During the week, we attended the Puerto Rico Summit in Orlando. We discussed our work to boost tech jobs at Lake Nona and NeoCity, new infrastructure projects in the district, and ways to strengthen Central Florida’s commercial ties to the Island.

We were also proud to host White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans Executive Director Alexis Holmes to discuss ways to address and remove disparities and injustices that exist in the education and economic system of the United States.

In Washington, D.C., we introduced the bipartisan Venezuelan Adjustment Act with Reps. Salazar, Wasserman Schultz, and Wilson to give Venezuelans in the United States a pathway to permanent legal status. President Joe Biden and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have also delivered TPS and a recent parole program to help Venezuelans have treated stability.

I'm proud of all we accomplished this week and look forward to continuing our work to protect Central Florida.

It was an honor to remember our 49 angels on the House floor this week.

Now, Venezuelans need a pathway to permanent legal status in order to have greater stability.

FILE BY AUGUST 10: PACT Act Resources for Veterans
Toxic-exposed veterans in Central Florida deserve to access all their rightfully earned benefits without issue.

Veterans are encouraged to file claims by August 10 to have their benefits, if granted, backdated to August 10, 2022 — the day that President Biden signed the bill into law.

For more information, visit VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-698-2411.
There has been an increase in PACT Act-related email, phone, and social media scams targeting veterans by offering to submit claims on their behalf. Click here to learn more.
