Remembering the Rev. Dr. Carl A. Malmgren
|
|
Former LUM Board President & LUM Camp Pastor
|
|
It is with great sadness and loss that we share the passing of a great friend and colleague of LUM, the
Rev. Dr. Carl A. Malmgren. Rev. Carl was the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Lafayette, and an engaged leader for many years with Lafayette Urban Ministry. With LUM, Rev. Carl was the president of the LUM Board of Directors and served as the resident pastor at
LUM Camp for several years.
Joe Micon, LUM executive director, shares,
"Carl was a special leader during his years on the LUM Board of Directors. He was president when the current LUM Emergency Shelter was built. I remember him insisting that the building be bright and uplifting because those who would be using it should have at least one place like that in their lives. He always followed what was happening at LUM and was always there whenever I would call on him for advice or support. Whenever a homeless guest passed away, Carl would always say 'yes' to doing their memorial service. More than anything else, Carl was always generous with news about his beloved family and reveled in each new addition. He was a treasure to LUM, and he will be missed deeply." {Rev. Carl is pictured above at last summer's LUM Camp eager to serve the campers ice cream sundaes.}

LUM Solar Energy Initiative Update
|
|
Over $500 - Energy Generated So Far
|
Despite the short days, overcast skies and snowfall, the solar panels on the LUM Office building have generated
over $500 worth of electricity in just two months.
In addition to the environmental benefits of going solar, the savings to LUM will potentially be
$6,618 per year
. This total includes the savings from the reduction in energy needed as well as revenue from trading Solar Renewable Energy Credits. This money will be re-invested in LUM programs & services in support of local families. This savings will also allow LUM to freeze the enrollment fees for the LUM
After School Program
for the next three years.
As the days grow longer and there are more days with bright sun and clear skies, the amount of energy generated daily will increase substantially. Stay tuned for more update in the future.
