It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Ruth Cameron Haden, one of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra's Music Advisory Board members. Ruth served on the Board since 2015 and was always involved in the SJO's annual Commissioning Competition.
Ruth's life in music as a jazz vocalist, recording two solo albums, First Songs and Roadhouse, and her work with her husband, bassist Charlie Haden, as his producer and manager will be remembered. She was a vocalist on Haden's Sophisticated Ladies album, co-produced his Land of the Sun album which won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2005, as well as singing on and co-producing the album Charlie Haden Family and Friends: Rambling Boy.
Her family and loved ones are in our thoughts at this difficult time. We are grateful for all of her contributions to the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra and to the music community.
