Dear People of St. Francis,
With great sadness and confidence in a generous and gracious God, I write to let you know that the Rev. Dr. Edward Dufresne died last evening. Edward was our friend, sometime pastor and choir member here at St. Francis. He was also a spiritual guide to the clergy and people of St. Francis, St. Brendan’s and Trinity, Castine and indeed, to many followers locally and globally. He was at home, his bed positioned so that he was facing the waters of his beloved Bagaduce River. He died peacefully, with the full
knowledge that he was loved by God and by his wife, Elizabeth Lastaiti, along with friends and family from near and far.
A time of visitation has been set aside at St. Francis from 1:00-3:00 pm this coming Sunday, March 5th. The community is invited to come by the church to pay your respects and to greet the family.
The Service of Burial, with Holy Eucharist, will follow at 10:00 am, Monday morning, also at St. Francis. The Rt. Rev. Thomas Brown, Bishop of Maine, will preside and the Rev. Elaine Hewes, Priest in Charge, St. Brendan’s, Deer Isle, will preach.
The people of St. Francis will be joined by members of Trinity Church, Castine and St. Brendan’s, Deer Isle in providing food for both Sunday afternoon and for the reception following the liturgy on Monday. If you are able to provide cookies/bars for Sunday afternoon or sandwiches/vegetable trays/cookies for Monday, please notify Sarah Everdell at sjeverdell@me.com or at
(207) 359-8562. Assistance with setting up and cleaning up will also be greatly appreciated.
Please keep Edward and Elizabeth, along with their entire family, in your prayers.
Faithfully,
Allan+
The Rev. Allan Sandlin, Interim Rector
Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord;
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
