Cross-department Innovation: ED APPs and Department Opthalmology
Submitted by Cana Jenkins, interim manager ED APP
On November 10, the ED APP team and Opthalmology launched REFLECT, a tele-ophthalmology initiative funded by the International Ophthalmological Fellowship Foundation. The grant enabled the purchase of a non-mydriatic fundus camera for high-quality retinal imaging without dilation, streamlining triage by APPs in the ED. ED APPs are the first group outside Ophthalmology to use this model, aiming for faster decisions, shorter patient wait times, and improved care for acute eye complaints in the ED. This collaboration exemplifies how cross-department innovation can meaningfully enhance patient-centered care.
