As we prepare for the 2021 NM legislative session, the one thing we know is that there is an incredible interest in expanding and strengthening New Mexico's food and agriculture initiatives and businesses. We are seeing more interest and coordination among farmers, ranchers, food businesses, food hubs and cooperatives, distributors, retailers, organizations and agencies, building on years of diligent work, to expand business and market opportunities.
At the same time, many of you are working together on the frontlines of food assistance programs and the many Covid-19 related issues and programs. Thank you! We are seeing greater connections and coordination of our natural resources to local food systems, as we continue to articulate to many people, how our land, soil, and water are directly tied to the food on our tables. Here is a wonderful article in the Santa Fe Reporter about some of these efforts.

There are many resources available!
As we move into the holiday season, and reflect on a pivotal year of change and challenges, much has been learned. The greatest gifts you all share are those of courage, creativity, and compassion. The trust and genuine interest to work together, to build on hard work to strengthen our local food and farm systems, is profound. Your participation and commitments to the New Mexico Food and Agriculture Policy Council are helping us nurture our values, build partnerships, and prepare for the future.
We look forward to seeing you and hearing your contributions at our upcoming NMFAPC meeting, December 15th!
With much appreciation,

The purpose of the New Mexico Food and Agricultural Policy Council is to improve the health and wealth of New Mexicans through increasing economic opportunities for rural and under-served communities.
Our goal is to improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables for children, food-insecure families, and individuals.
At the same time, our focus is on expanding markets for farming and ranching families, and reinvigorating local economic activity with food wholesale/retail development.
