New! DeFuniak Springs Amphitheater Under Consideration for Redevelopment
The DeFuniak Springs Amphitheater sits right on the edge of Lake DeFuniak in Chipley Park.
It is the hub for activity in downtown DeFuniak Springs. The venue hosts concerts, plays, holiday events, and the annual LakeFest festival.
But the Community Redevelopment Agency says it needs modernization to improve its functionality.
“We do everything here to improve the quality of life for our citizens and the people who wish to move here,” DeFuniak Springs City Manager Koby Townsend said.

New! Fort Myers CRA Approves Commercial Property Improvement Grants for Downtown
Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency approved four Commercial Property Improvement Matching Grants for the Downtown Redevelopment Area during its last meeting of the fiscal year.
The first grant was approved for Bare Roots Holding Company LLC’s property at 2011 Bayside Parkway for the not-to-exceed amount of $45,086. The funds will be used to install a paver parking lot and new fencing, add wood accents to the building, planter boxes and new landscaping as well as conduct an exterior demo of old vent areas and patch holes.
The second was awarded to RMZ Investments LLC in the not-to-exceed amount of $27,240 for its property at 1611 Fowler St. Funds will be used to replace the deck and wheelchair ramp and paint and patch the exterior.
The third grant was approved for the not-to-exceed amount of $100,000 for Streets Properties Inc., 2219 Main St. The awarded funds will be used to paint the building, window and door restoration, complete a balcony, blockwork and stucco and exterior patching.
The final grant is in the not-to-exceed amount of $7,987 for DAK Property Holdings Inc., 1520 Broadway, to paint and patch structure’s exterior.

Fort Myers CRA Discusses Downtown Expansion
On Wednesday, the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency discussed an expansion of the area they oversee.
They want to add 505 acres to their already existing 540 acres of coverage, including the Altamont Park neighborhood, parts of midtown, Central South and a portion of Dean Park.
The Community Redevelopment Agency board said people should get excited. This plan, which has not been approved yet, shows that residents will see an expansion of downtown.

Margate Advances City Center Redevelopment, Shortlists 4 Developers
Progress is beginning to move forward on the City Center redevelopment project.
The board agreed to a shortlist of potential developers during the September 30 Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting.
The development companies under consideration include Brookfield Properties, Michaels, Related Group and Kenco Communities. Board members, who are also the Margate commission, discussed the companies and what they could offer the city.
Margate leaders want to create a mixed-use development on the 50-acre area at the corner of Margate Blvd and State Road 7. It will be a new downtown that will attract new residents and be a destination with restaurants and stores.

Downtown Conversion: Art Deco Bank to Italian-Style Steakhouse - Lakeland CRA
A former CEO of the Shula Restaurant Group plans to convert the historic Florida National Bank building in downtown Lakeland into Prima 135, an upscale steakhouse. To help make the plan a reality, the building’s owner is seeking $195,000 in incentives from the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency.
Prima 135 is envisioned as an elegant establishment that “will fill a niche in the market for a higher-end steakhouse with an Italian flair,” according to Bill Freeman, the entrepreneur behind the project. He says he hopes Prima 135 can open by the end of next year.
