Senior Citizen Discount Day
|
Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED), in conjunction with the Township's Senior Citizen Advisory Board, is creating a Senior Citizen Discount Day. Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible for the discount, which will be 10% off on Tuesdays.
Participating businesses can be stores, restaurants or services (hair salon, car wash, bowling, oil change, etc.).
NOTE: Businesses must have publicly advertised prices (not services that provide estimates for each job individually).
Businesses that register here will be listed in a brochure that seniors can use for shopping and dining in the Township. The brochure will be posted on the Discover Haverford website, on Facebook, and printed for distribution at participating business. It will be updated periodically to allow businesses to join or leave the program. HPED will advertise the program throughout the community.
Businesses will benefit by drawing in new customers on a day which is traditionally slower than other days of the week.

Welcome to New Owner of Dish & Dabble
|
|
|
HPED welcomes Coletta Betancourt, the new owner of Dish & Dabble at 24 E. Eagle Road in Oakmont. Coletta grew up in Havertown, graduated from Haverford High School in 2007, and received her BFA from MICA University in Baltimore. She bought Dish & Dabble to transition to creating art full-time, but she also loves being her own boss, and enjoys having the creative space to expand the offerings at Dish & Dabble.
Coletta loves being a part of the creative community in Havertown. “Growing up in Havertown, there were so few places for artists, or places to showcase art. Since returning to Havertown, I’m noticing a shift. There is a growing community of creative people here, which is exciting.” She also loves reconnecting with family and friends around town, and the small-town feeling that Havertown provides.
The experience of owning Dish & Dabble is helping her to mold her life’s goal to use her talents to give back to the community. "One idea is to partner with my sister who is a teacher in Philly, to offer programs to underprivileged children,” explains Coletta.
Dish & Dabble currently offers workshops and classes focused primarily on canvas painting, but Coletta is working to expand their offerings. She is planning a beginners ceramics class, vision board making, and seasonally inspired workshops. Coletta also paints murals, and hopes to coordinate a community mural project this year.
One of her favorite things about owning Dish & Dabble is the number of local artists, both budding and professional, who have reached out her. “I love collaborating with other artists, and giving local artists an additional platform to showcase themselves. I welcome any local artist to reach out with ideas for working together, or just to say hello!”
On March 15th, they are offering a mosaic workshop, and throughout this month they are offering a weekly class focused on the work of Van Gough, called “Rebel Wednesdays.” The front of her shop serves as a fine art gallery featuring some of Coletta’s original pieces. Check out their website for additional classes and offerings. https://www.dishanddabble.com/

Free Storm Water Planters or Rain Gardens for Haverford Businesses
|
|
|
Haverford businesses can request a free storm water flow through planter if they have downspouts in a visible, paved location on their business property or rain gardens if they have a suitable location. A limited number of planters will be available to good locations under a pilot program funded by the Haverford Township Civic Council. Check your downspouts and request more information or a planter by emailing
havaraingarden@gmail.com
with the subject “Storm water Planter” or “Rain Garden” if requesting a rain garden.
What Are They?
Rain Gardens are beautiful landscaped areas built down, instead of up, intercepting runoff from buildings, driveways and other impervious surfaces before it can reach the storm sewers and streams. Small gardens are typically 6-12 inches deep and drain within a day or two after a rain. Plants are water and drought tolerant and need little or no watering after they are established. Find more information at
www.facebook.com/HaverfordRainGardens
. Storm water planters are designed to filter and detain water from downspouts watering a beautiful array of water and drought tolerant plants.
