Chronic Pain Awareness Month

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) "of those who began abusing opioids in the 2000s, 75 percent reported that their first opioid was a prescription drug." This statistics has only increased since then. Please join MCSAP member, Ms. Serita Valmond, as she hosts a Community Resource Fair to provide recognition and resources to communities that are afflicted with chronic pain.

If you or someone you know is interested in being a resource table at this event, please follow this link to sign up

MCSAP Friday Night Rivals Volunteer Opportunity!

It's that time again!

Friday Night Rivals campaign- this campaign works with a marketing agency that specializes in substance use and behavioral health messaging. As part of this campaign they will run PSAs on local television networks, and will be present at several Friday night football games in the greater Milwaukee area- where they will provide a table for a local prevention partner to share information, do a short interview, and broadcast the event.

With your help, MCSAP can pass out educational materials at each of these games to raise youth and parent awareness of substance use and misuse topics and resources. Volunteers will be responsible for tabling at each of the games, (a table and tent will already be available so you will not need to worry about transporting), and respond to a short interview with the marketing agency about the coalition. This is a great opportunity for MCSAP to connect with community members- please consider signing up below for one or more of the listed games.

September is

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, observed in September, aims to foster and destigmatize conversations around suicide and promote access to services and resources.

This year, Community Advocates is offering six opportunities to attend QPR Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training to teach helpful techniques on how to talk to someone who may be thinking of harming themselves and providing a pathway to help. These trainings will be held on September 8, 15, 19, 27, 28, and 29. You can find our full calendar with all of our Mental Health and Wellness workshops at this link. Contact Rita at rliesiefsky@communityadvocates.net if you would like to schedule a workshop for your organization.
