JUNE 2022 NEWS & UPDATES | STPHILIPS1600.ORG
ENRICHMENT CLUSTERS
During the last week of school, our students participated in enrichment clusters. In these enrichment clusters, students who share common interests came together to engage in activities and pursue their special interests. Some of these activities included choir, jewelry making, African dance, song, and more! Everything that students did in the cluster was directed toward completing a product or delivering a service related to his or her interest. Our students got the extraordinary opportunity to pursue their extracurricular interests with the help of their teachers!

WE NEED YOU! Volunteers Make the World Go Round
Aunt Bette's Community Pantry
Client choice shopping inside the pantry is making a return on June 13. There are expanded volunteer opportunities, which means we need your help! Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry has volunteer slots available on Mondays and Wednesdays 7:45 am-11:45 am, Tuesdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:45 pm, and Thursdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Sign up to volunteer.

Volunteers continue to pick up surplus meals daily from Snap Kitchen at Mockingbird/Skillman. These meals are distributed through Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry, and through other nearby partners when our pantry is closed. Please send an email if you are interested in helping with this effort as a substitute driver. Pick-ups are in the mornings.
Gwen’s Garden
We would love YOUR help in Gwen's Garden! We need volunteers to assist with our community garden on the first Saturday of the month. The task of keeping the garden in constant motion requires several hours of labor. In addition to planting and harvesting, the garden must be routinely maintained, and that is where you can help. Volunteers are needed to weed, plant, harvest, and perform any other duties which lend themselves to the upkeep and general beautification of the garden.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
St. Alcuin Teams Up with Dr. Flowers in Gwen’s Garden
Last month, students from St. Alcuin School volunteered in Gwen’s Garden with help from Dr. Flowers. The garden’s upkeep requires hours of planting, harvesting, weeding, and other forms of labor. Thank you to the students of St. Alcuin – your hard work and servant hearts are greatly appreciated!

Touring St. Philip’s and Beyond
Every couple of months there is a unique opportunity to have a special tour of the campus and the surrounding neighborhood with Dr. Flowers. There is so much historical and current context that Dr. Flowers shares on each of these tours - it is a combination of a walking tour of the school campus and pantry, coupled with a bus tour of the neighborhood. The bus tour highlights the community development work over the last two decades plus current and future plans for revitalization on MLK Jr. Blvd. If you are interested in a tour, please send us an email.
Community Meetings
St. Philip’s hosts monthly Community Meetings on our campus as an opportunity for neighbors to hear about pertinent issues and opportunities and gain valuable information. Every month, Officer Bryan Joseph of the Dallas Police Department presents crime statistics and fields questions. Community meetings are held at St. Philip's on the 4th Thursday of every month (unless otherwise noted) - everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
