Help your Child
have a Successful MAP Experience This Fall!

Some helpful hints!
At ICS, we are dedicated to continuous improvement and meeting the learning needs of
all of our students. One source we use to reflect on student learning strengths and identify areas
for improvement is the results of standardized assessments. MAP Growth is an assessment utilized for measuring achievement and growth in K–12 Math, Reading, Language and Science. It provides teachers with accurate and actionable evidence to help target instruction for each student or groups of students regardless of how far above or below they are from their grade level. For more information about the MAP Growth test, please visit: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/

Download the flyer here.

Be aware of the testing dates.
Your child’s teacher will be communicating specific information with you.

Be well rested.
Plan bedtime 30-60 minutes earlier than usual. Turn off the TV,
video-games, and computers earlier in the evening.

Eat a good breakfast.
Nutrition is important! As usual, students will be provided
breakfast upon arrival at school.

Be on time for school.
Students arriving late often feel rushed and anxious.

Avoid scheduling appointments during testing dates.
Attendance during testing is very important. Be sure to avoid needing make-up testing by ensuring your child is at school on testing day.

Have a positive attitude.
Our kids look at us to set the tone for the day. Smiles are contagious!
Dressing for Learning
Please contact the Family Resource Center at (414) 525-6117 if you need assistance obtaining winter coats, boots, hats, mittens/gloves for your child(ren).
We wanted to take a moment to remind our families that our school has a Dress and Grooming Policy. The expectations for that policy can be found on page 29 of the 2021-2022 Parent-Student Handbook (click here). We encourage families to review those guidelines together with their children and to be mindful of what children are wearing before they head out the door for school.

Also... it's hard to believe but soon, the temperatures will be turning chilly, so it's a good idea to check now to ensure that your child has a coat, boots, hat and mittens/gloves that still fit. We regularly take our students outside for learning, to play and to connect with Mother Earth. Being appropriately dressed for weather is important!
Who's Hungry?
THIS WEEK'S BREAKFAST & LUNCH MENU
Meet Loveable Bart!
SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL FRUIT & VEGETABLE MONTH!
Frugie fans unite!
Can you feel it in the air? Summer is winding down and the coolness of fall is slowly approaching. That can mean only one thing... pear season is here! During August and September, hard-working growers and pickers throughout Oregon, Washington and Michigan, handpick all ten varieties of pears. These pears then are packed by hand and shipped across North America, where they wait for you to pick them up and take them home. That’s when the real fun begins!

Our Food Services Manager, Ms. Natalia, reminds us that we'll also be serving up these freshly grown, works-of-pear-art here at ICS! So when you see "fresh fruit" in our lunch menu this month, think "fresh pears" as part of that yummy mix!
We Love Our Alumni!
Alumni attending Pius XI say "posoh, boozhoo, shekoli!"
Mr. Valtierra, ICS Transition Coordinator, visited with ICS Alumni at the beginning of the school year and shared this photo with us. We thought everyone would appreciate seeing those smiling faces, even if some of the smiles are behind masks!
