A Message from the School District
Dear School District of Reedsburg Residents,
When I came to Reedsburg, I never imagined that within my first 18 months I would be asking our community to consider two referendums. I know what is being asked of our taxpayers, and I do not take that lightly.
There are a lot of difficult decisions that come with leading a school district. Tough budget and staffing decisions are part of the job.
What keeps me up at night is something different. Every day, parents send 2,500 of the most important people in their lives to us, and I am ultimately responsible for doing everything that I can to send them home safely.
That responsibility weighs heavily on me when I think about Webb Middle School.
We have had too many close calls. We have experienced building and mechanical failures where we were fortunate that a student or staff member
was not in the area when they occurred. Those experiences have forced us to take a serious look at the future of Webb.
Webb has served generations of Reedsburg students, but the age of the building, its systems, and the challenges of the site have forced us to seriously
consider its future.
As Superintendent, my responsibility is to lead this wonderful District and advocate for what is best for our students. It is not my role to tell you how to vote.
My call to you is simple: learn as much as you can. Come tour Webb. Understand what is being proposed, why it is being proposed, what it will cost,
and the challenges we face if we continue to operate Webb. And if something does not make sense, please ask us rather than assume.
Ultimately, this decision belongs to our community.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more.
Sincerely,
Tom Burkhalter
Superintendent

Tiplines are used to identify threats to schools and for concerns impacting school-age youth, such as bullying, drug use, suicidal thoughts, and more. Schools that promote and use tiplines have less violence overall. The SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT (SUSO) tipline is run by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Office of School Safety. | | | |
