Rich purple graphic with curving grid pattern and map outline of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Borough. Draft Budget Consultation 2025/26. A strong financial footing to serve the borough effectively

Have your say on our draft budget for 2025/26

We want to hear your views on our proposals that set out how we plan to set a balanced budget and fund essential local services from April 2025.

Recognising the need to undo years of underfunding and cuts, and that the council is on the brink of effective bankruptcy - the proposed spending plans of £127.4m are an increase of £36m on this year’s budget and also include efficiency savings of £6.7m from transforming services and increased income.

You can have your say on the proposals on our RBWM Together page until Thursday 30 January or receive help to complete the consultation by visiting one of the borough's libraries

Your feedback will be reported with the final budget for consideration by the council’s Cabinet at the end of February, that will be voted on by all councillors on 5 March.

Amber Cold Health Alert. Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Cold Health Alert extended in South East

The Met Office and UK Health Security Agency have extended the current South East Amber Cold Health Alert until 9am on Tuesday 14 January, as the low temperatures are forecast to continue.

Until then, anyone with existing health conditions, people aged 65+ and children are more at risk. Aim to keep your home at 18°C or more and check on vulnerable loved ones and neighbours. Health services may also be busier, and it is possible that roads and train services may be disrupted.

See NHS advice on keeping healthy during cold weather or view more details about the alert on the UKHSA website

Do Just One Thing to improve your health

By choosing just one lifestyle change, you’re more likely to stick with it. The late TV presenter and writer Dr Michael Mosley realised this. It was part of the success of his BBC Just One Thing podcasts and his own work, as he suggested simple, practical, and sometimes seemingly quirky ways to improve our health.

We are promoting some of his tips for you to try this January, from eating more beetroot and garlic to deep breathing exercises - with health benefits backed up by research.

Share your views on parking guidelines for new developments

We’re asking for your views to help shape how parking is provided on new developments in our borough.

Your feedback will then be used to help create a draft Parking Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), that will guide developers to meet the parking needs of residents, local businesses and commuters, deliver safe and pleasant roads and promote connections between communities. It will only apply to parking that is provided in new developments.

The scoping document for public comment includes a set of draft principles and content for the SPD and includes learning gained from a detailed look at the parking guidelines used in neighbouring areas.

Everyone can now play Street Tag

Everyone living or working in the borough can join the Street Tag treasure hunt game when its new season launches next Monday 13 January. The new community leaderboard is open to teams of residents, families, and young people to find virtual tags hidden across the borough to collect the most and win Amazon gift vouchers.

The tags are hidden across the borough in parks, along footpaths and bridleways, at leisure centres, libraries, playgrounds, as well as at historical and cultural sites. Players can also add their own tags if none already exist, along their favourite walking, rolling, and cycling routes.

Pupils and their families from the previous schools' seasons can continue playing by moving their existing school accounts to the new community leaderboard

New community players can sign up via the national Street Tag website. Teams have between one to six players and the new season is due to run until 10 March.
