Driving Show Entries Close

July 10

Hello Members and Friends,

Our Picnic Drive was held on June 28 at Orleton Farm. We had a light turnout, but the weather was spectacular. Harvey and Mary hosted a hotdog and beans lunch grilled up by our Grill Masters Pat and Maureen Gamelli. The lunch and conversation were a real treat.

The August horse show is fast approaching. Officials got selected, ribbons got ordered, donors were mailed requests, prize list got produced and mailed, and now the entries have started to arrive. If you haven't already, you can review and send in your entries. Entries close July 10. See below for the link.

We have some exciting updates on the lineup of officials for our show this year. See below to read the latest.

Please contact Laurie Danaher if you have availability to volunteer for the show.

We invite you to consider the rewarding opportunity of sponsoring a class or division at our upcoming show, as your support plays a crucial role in enriching the vibrant culture of The Colonial Carriage and Driving Society. If you are interested, please reach out to Ann Willey at ann@drwilley.net for further details. Additionally, we encourage you to submit an advertisement for our show program, with the submission deadline quickly approaching on July 10. This is a wonderful chance to showcase your business while contributing to the success of our event. We also welcome you to share this opportunity with local businesspeople who may be interested in supporting our event. Together, we can preserve and celebrate the cherished tradition of carriage driving, fostering a spirit of collaboration and passion among all members.

See you at the show in August!

Minutes from the June Meeting

Heather Naventi states that we currently have 40 paid members.

We also welcomed new member William Dresher. William's parents were Dr. Dresher and Bunny Dresher. They owned a farm in Lanesboro and drove Haflingers for many years. They participated in all of the Tub Parades until they were no longer able to drive. William has moved back to the area to take over the family farm.

Important Updates...

We are pleased to announce some changes in our lineup of officials to carry on the tradition of the Orleton Farm Driving Competition.

Joining us this year to spearhead the secretarial duties and scoring efforts for our Combined Test and Driving Trial will be Ellen Ettinger.

Our cones and marathon course designer will be Bruce Ettinger. He will also set up the timed obstacle, fault and out and pick your own route courses as well as our cross-country map.

Joining us as announcer this year will be Keith Gibbin.

An additional request from our facility hosts is that we all take special care to minimize our impact on the beautiful grounds of Orleton Farm. For exhibitors stabled in the tent stalls we ask that you make all effort to keep your stalls well bedded and clean. It is imperative that your stall be stripped and raked to the grass upon your departure. If you are unable to make that happen, it is your responsibility to identify someone who will make that effort on your behalf.

Camper spots are filling fast. Please get your reservations in soon so as not to be disappointed.

Save the Date

Newport Coaching Weekend: August 15-17. Enjoy the 16th century coaches as they parade through the streets of Newport and the grounds of Newport Mansions.
