Saturday, October 12, 2024 in Orinda

For those with a sweet tooth, there will be Karlovarske oplatky from Sacramento Cookie Factory and, of course, it would not be a Czech festival without Czech beers!

Sokol San Francisco and the Czech School of California will again celebrate the Day of the Republic with a picnic and Sokolský Běh this year!

This is our fourth year!

We are looking forward to seeing your friendly faces again!

It is so great to see such a strong community!

as last year:

  • Sunday, October 27, 2024
  • Seal Point Park, Ryder Park Picnic Area; San Mateo, CA.

There are three categories for the run:

  • children under 10 (2014 and younger)
  • children under 14 (2010 - 2013)
  • and adults

The registration fee for an adult is $10

There is no registration fee for children but they need to be registered to run

(so we have their starting number and medal as well as prizes)

Please register ASAP!

Should you have any difficulties with registration or payment, please contact us at sokolsfevents@gmail.com

You do not need to run to come to the picnic, everyone is welcome;

you can help us cheer on the runners and

spend time with your fellow Czechs and Slovaks.

Please read the instructions carefully!

Everyone is welcome to join us for the picnic and the run!

Sokol San Francisco members who register for the run by September 30, 2023 will receive a complimentary Sokolsky Beh Republiky Under Armour T-shirt from Sokol SF.

After you complete the registration

please send an email to sokolsfevents@gmail.com

with your name and T-shirt size.

Sizes are limited so register and send in your size early.

First come, first served.

Due to the logistics of getting the race bibs and medals etc. from the Czech Republic to the USA,

you need to register by September 15th, 2023 to have your name printed on the starting bib and have a guaranteed this year's medal!

You can register after this date all the way to October 24, 2024

but T-shirt (size), bib, and medal will not be guaranteed

After the run, we will have a picnic sponsored by Sokol San Francisco and the Czech School of California.

Charcoal for the grills, water and coffee will be provided.

Bring your own picnic lunch and maybe something to share.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the picnic and at the starting line!

Mark your calendars and start training!

All participants who register by September 15th will have their name printed on their race bib number!

If you are not a member of Sokol San Francisco you might be able to purchase a T-shirt in the morning during check-in. As the number of T-shirts and sizes is limited due to logistics, it is on a first come, first serve basis as well.

Children's Day Picnic at Lake Chabot

Saturday, June 8, 2024

Sokol SF and Czech School of California host our traditional Children's Day!

What a great day to say goodbye to the school year and welcome summer!

Thank you to all who attended!

We had over 60 adults and children join us at this beautiful picnic spot at Lake Chabot.

There are a lot of thank you's to give:

Thank you to Helenka for getting our picnic place reserved and to Linda for setting up. A big thank you to Slavka who kept the grill going the whole afternoon and deserves the title "grill master".

CSoC organized games for the children. There was a lot of hopping and skipping and singing going on! Thank you to all the volunteers who staffed the individual stations.

It is so nice to hear so many children speaking Czech so far from home!

Well done parents for keeping our culture and language going strong!

June Hike and Visit to Filoli Gardens

Saturday, June 15, 2024 @ 10am

In June we combined both popular events into one.

We started with a visit to the Filoli Mansion and also walked around and checking out the formal gardens, rose garden, pool area, vegetable and herb garden.

It is a slice of calm and quiet in the middle of the busy peninsula.

After walking the hiking trail beyond the gardens and listening to Lea's introduction and the property's history, we sat down for our picnic lunch.

We had the largest group of Sokol members and friends so far!

Sixteen members from Sokol San Francisco along with members from Sokol Los Angeles participated in the XVII All-Sokol SLET in Prague, CZ this summer. "Všesokolský slet letos už po 17. spojuje generace, regiony a hlavně lidi, kteří dělají něco pro své zdraví. České obci sokolské, která vždy stála na správné straně našich dějin, jsem včera s hrdostí předal prapor prezidenta jako výraz uznání za podporu sportu a výchovu ke skutečnému vlastenectví."

-- Český Prezident, Petr Pavel, Facebook

"This year, for the 17th time, the All-Sokol Gathering brings together generations, regions, and, above all, people who are doing something for their health. Yesterday, I proudly presented the flag of the president to the Czech village of Sokolská, which has always stood on the right side of our history, as an expression of appreciation for supporting sports and educating for true patriotism."

-- Czech President, Petr Pavel, Facebook

Biography of JAN HAVLASA (1883-1964)

AUTOR PRVNÍ ČESKĚ KNIHY O SAN FRANCISKU

Významný český autor románů, povídek a cestopisů první poloviny 20. století zasvětil svůj život propagaci vzdáleného Nipponu (tedy Japonska), miloval Tahiti a vlastně celou Polynésii, o níž vydal také řadu knih. Velkou část svého tvůrčího života ale strávil v Kalifornii - už v prvním desetiletí 20. století žil v Los Angeles a krátce dokonce i na nedalekém ostrově Catalina. Právě u Tichého oceánu napsal celou řadu knih věnovaných západní části Spojených států, především Kalifornii a Arizoně. A jednu z prvních věnoval

plně San Francisku.
