The quaint town of Union sits at the southern bend of the Hood Canal located on the western side of the Puget Sound. Union faces west with its southern Olympic Mountain views and calm waters. Its location offers consistent colorful shows of dramatic mountain sunsets. This alone is a draw for artists and photographers as well as the many seasonal vacationers who come to visit. Take a virtual visit on the NWAA website to see the newest small community to be featured by clicking HERE.
Here are more of the extraordinary artists that call Union home.

OUTSIDE THE LINES
Northwest Art Alliance (NWAA) is a vibrant organization with active goals that provide a direct connection to artists, and art enthusiasts throughout the community. We had an incredible year and as we look back the results are amazing. As we try to bring visibility to pieces of the five goals, it makes a great story with understandable content.
|
Last year we were able to obtain four grants, which allowed NWAA to jump start several projects and start 2023 as a healthy non-profit organization. The music provided at the Fall Show “Art Gala” was grant funded. This year we started off with two more grant awards in January.
Pamelagrace Beatty was one of the musicians (and an artist at previous exhibits, see her painting to right) who wrote “… and all who had anything to do with inviting me to sing at the gala affair. It was SO MUCH fun to be there and be part of the ambiance and the first (or what we hope will be many) galas for NWAA. I was in 7th heaven combining my love for art with my love for music!”
|
Our partners in the Art Gala included Martedi Winery and Metropolitan Market, both noted for high quality products. We felt that these were both good matches to the event where “Best of the Northwest” is more than a title, it is a belief in how we approach these showcase events.
A question often asked was, “why is NWAA introducing an Art Gala”? The answer requires the use of binoculars to “look to the future” and how do we add excitement, bring new energy to the fall show… we intend to build on the success of 2022 and look down the road to better highlight the fabulous artist and their creative artwork.
We look forward to the next Art Gala on November 10, 2023!

The Best of the Northwest Spring show is offering an opportunity for new artists in the
Emerging Artist Program
|
Are you an Emerging Artist?
An emerging artist is an artist that has mastered the basic techniques in their art form and who is attempting to launch a professional career in the arts or an artist taking their established career in a new direction.
This program is open to all media (except jewelry) and to artists that have not exhibited at the Best of the Northwest shows in the past.
|
One or two winners are selected, given a booth at the Best of the Northwest Spring show and paired with a NWAA legacy artist mentor. The mentor will be an experienced BNW artist who can share their expertise and help the emerging artist prepare for the event by being available to answer questions and “showing them the ropes” of participating in this premier art and fine craft show in Seattle.

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our NWAA team. Alex Strazzanti is coming on as the organizational coordinator. Look for him at Art by Design this week. In the meanwhile, read more about him below-
Alex is thrilled to join the NW Art Alliance team and contribute all he has learned as an active leader in the Seattle art community for 20 years. As a fervent advocate for promoting art and building community, he strongly believes in NWAA’s mission.
|
After working in social services with people with disabilities for 10 years, Alex decided to pursue his life-long passion for photography and started his own business, Strazzanti Photography & Art in 2003. He began by selling his landscape and travel photographs at the Fremont and Edmonds Markets, local cafes and small shows. He was impressed by the number of talented artists showing in these venues, but quickly saw there were few opportunities for artists to sell their work between the high-end galleries and the farmer’s markets. In 2005, he and his wife decided to create Oasis Art Gallery in Wallingford; a welcoming gallery environment featuring over 100 different local artists. As a business owner in Wallingford he also joined the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and was on the team of co-founders that started the Wallingford Art Walk in 2007.
|
While running all aspects of the gallery, Alex’s photography business grew to include photographing real estate, artwork, headshots, and advertising imagery for small businesses. It would lead him to work with amazing people and see wonderful places around the US and the globe.
Alex was asked to join as a Coordinator for the Magnolia Arts Festival and soon thereafter became the Co-Director for the Wedgwood Arts Festival in 2010. Working with his friend Nancy Reed, they grew the festival from 12 participants to 70 in just four years, requiring a move to a larger venue. Alex continues as Co-Director with Marissa Motto and they thoroughly enjoy working together to produce one of the largest art festivals in Seattle.
|
During the covid years, Alex assisted NWAA with the pivot to virtual shows by creating on-line stores for Best of the Northwest so artists could continue selling their work. During quarantine he also decided to try a ‘bucket-list’ activity and gave painting a try. Inspired by waterfalls, natural landscapes, and his travels, he is now a prolific painter and sells his abstract impressionism paintings on his website.

DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Northwest Art Alliance's mission and goals include expanding general and targeted outreach to all communities and artists to better serve artists' needs and help sustain support for their vocation. NWAA connects artists to the broader community through its shows. Artists would not have this critical exposure without this connection.
Northwest Art Alliance normally produces 3 or more in-person shows each year with a total of 996 artists represented during the last 3 years (unduplicated count). NWAA has pivoted to virtual shows and other features to help artists sell their work during the pandemic. NWAA needs community support and donations to continue its mission. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to this non-profit organization and click here. Thank you for your continued support of the Best of the Northwest shows!
NWAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

"We thank the Artists and Northwest Art Alliance for almost 20 years of support of Seattle Children's Hospital. Through your generous donations, together we have raised $1.5 million for unfunded care for children and families in the Pacific Northwest. Our guild's annual fundraiser, a large luncheon and auction event titled 'Art a la Carte', has been paused for 2020 to 2022. We look forward to future events when we will again work to support Seattle Children's Hospital."
