We are excited to announce this 3-day event with a grand Preview Gala on Friday, November 10, doors opening to the public starting at 3pm. Building on the success of last year's Gala, special event tickets can be purchased to be the first to see and buy from the artists. With their ticket, patrons receive a glass of Martedi Cellars wine, free appetizers from Metro Market, a ticket for a prize drawing of gift certificates for artwork and can enjoy live music while they shop. Food is provided by Sand Point Metropolitan Market for the Gala's appetizers. Artists are served a free Pagliacci pizza and salad dinner before the Gala opens.

The following 2 days, the show will open at 10am until 6pm on Sat and 5pm on Sun. In response to artist requests, the admission prices are reduced, and more free passes will be distributed. Seattle food trucks are onsite during these days. Children's art activity and a special exhibit will also be featured. Please join us in the light-filled, historic airplane hangar with a great community of your fellow artists.

Small Community Focus
New to the Small Community Focus exhibit on the NWAA website- Pomeroy, WA
Painting by Mary Flerchinger

Pomeroy is a small farming community of about 1,340 in the farthest SE corner of Washington State. Close to the Blue Mountains of the Umatilla forest and part of the Snake River, Pomeroy is just 30 miles from Lewiston Idaho, so it is about as “Eastern Washington” as one could get.

This rural town is nestled in a tree lined valley between vast fields of wheat on the high rolling hills of a region of Washington State known as the Palouse.

Painting by JD Brown

In the past, the population of Pomeroy has mostly been composed of retired farmers, city officials and small business owners, but in the last 30 years new people have been moving to Pomeroy, seeking the peace and slower pace of rural life.

Painting by Linda McKerinan
This new demographic, plus the needs of long-time crafts persons and artists in the community is now being served by the establishment of the Blue Mountain Artisan Guild. (BMAG).

Photography by Jaril Pietras

BMAG has provided a true impetus to the revitalization of Pomeroy, as well as the opportunity for its citizens to create and exhibit their work.

NWAA Videos
Coming soon-NWAA video channel
With a generous grant from 4Culture, Northwest Art Alliance has produced and continues to produce videos featuring NW artists and informational videos to aid artists in their creative journey. This summer, we are launching the NWAA YouTube channel where anyone can watch the process of creating art from several NW artists. And we will be adding informative videos to help artists improve their images to submit to art shows.

Below are the most recent three Portland area artists that will be part of the video collection coming to our YouTube channel this summer.

Joachim Mcmillan is a regular exhibitor at the Best of the Northwest shows. He is now featured in NWAA's Artline Market. See his shopping page HERE.

The subject matter of his work spans the spectrum of landscapes, boats, musicians, abstracts and people in everyday life.
As an innovative artist, Joachim McMillan brings to the world a vibrant and unique art style that explores the energy of life through color and texture. His paintings reflect the multi-faceted nature of the human condition and the world in which we live, and he achieves this by dissecting his paintings with energetic strokes using palette knives. The video will explore his unique painting technique.

Visit Joachim's website HERE

Rachel Morris of Eclectic Nature Jewelry & Design is Best of the Northwest show artist and teacher. Her jewelry making technique will be available to view on the upcoming videos. Rachel will be part of the BNW Fall show, so watch for her there.
Rachel's artwork is texture-rich, structural one-of-a-kind statement jewelry, weaving together geometric and architectural forms found in the natural world. It is hand-fabricated in precious metals; detailed with cut and raw gemstones and pearls. Her art encourages you to confidently present your unapologetic best self.

Francisco Bautista is a third-generation weaver from Sandy, OR. All of his pieces are woven in the traditional way with a foot pedal loom.

His work gives a since of history as well as a unique artistic expression, full of life and color. You can find Francisco's weavings in Artline Market by clicking HERE.

For Francisco, weaving is like dancing. "You move your whole body in harmony with the loom, stepping in rhythm on the pedals, one and then the other. The colors of yarn play like instruments around you as you weave, and the tapestry that emerges is the song you have made together, you and your loom."

See more of Francisco's weavings HERE.
A Note from the Board
OUTSIDE THE LINES
(June 2023)

ARTISTS!

When Outside the Lines first rolled out in January 2023 it was intended to provide a broader perspective of NWAA programs and accomplishments. We are now focusing on artists! The Northwest Art Alliance would like to salute and thank artists for their creativity, camaraderie, compliments, and commitment over the years.

When we look back on the recent Spring Best of the Northwest show, artist comments reinforce that our efforts are valued:
  • Both Elizabeth Neuman (printmaker) and Uri Kirchler (wooden art structures), among others, said they were very happy and had their best NWAA event, ever.
  • Alexandria Crow said she had always dreamed about being in the event and was very happy to be part of the show.

  • Many artists thanked us for taking the time and energy to host a pre-show artist dinner… they had not been to a show that puts in this extra effort for the artists. (Note: The Board of Directors members were wearing their NWAA aprons as they were actively serving salad, pizza and wine at the end of the busy setup day. It was nice to allow artists to relax and socialize before the busy weekend!)

  • Casual comments from artists shared that they enjoyed meeting people, finding new customers, and making friends with other artists.
  • Finally, one artist wrote “I was thrilled to be allowed to join this prestigious show. The quality of work at this event is at a very high level, and it was a high honor to be part of it. I appreciate the time and effort that everyone put in from management to volunteer help, and I made it a point to thank all that I could in person.”
Artists are at the core of what we do. NWAA supports artists:
  • Bringing visibility to the amazing art of talented artists at the Best of Northwest or Art by Design shows.
  • Providing an online marketplace for art at ARTLINE MARKET as part of our website (LINK)
  • Offering behind the scenes support for those who are navigating the challenges of becoming professional artists. The two artists selected for the NWAA Emerging Artist Program were mentored and provided booth space at the recent show.
  • Using grant funding to highlight 3 accomplished NWAA artists by producing videos showing their process, technique and inspiration. More to come in the future.

Artists also support NWAA!
  • Word of mouth (and website) visibility of NWAA events and programs.
  • Artists lend their talents to support NWAA in videos (see above article) and with images for apron/tote designs to help raise funds (see apron and tote section HERE.
  • Distribution of show materials to the individual mailing lists to expand awareness of the shows.
  • Recruiting volunteers (or being volunteers) in supporting NWAA in a variety of ways.

Our hats are off to the amazing artists. Thank you for your involvement and support!
~NWAA board president, Kathy Whitman

Donation Drive
DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Northwest Art Alliance's mission and goals include expanding general and targeted outreach to all communities and artists to better serve artists' needs and help sustain support for their vocation. NWAA connects artists to the broader community through its shows. Artists would not have this critical exposure without this connection.

Northwest Art Alliance normally produces 3 or more in-person shows each year with more than 1000 artists represented during the last 3 years (unduplicated count). NWAA pivoted to virtual shows and other features to help artists sell their work during the pandemic. And now is using those skills to bring the organization into the future. NWAA needs community support and donations to continue its mission. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to this non-profit organization and click here. Thank you for your continued support of the Best of the Northwest shows!

NWAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
