Take Action Against Misguided

DeWine Veto - House Bill 68

Over the past three years, the Ohio General Assembly has held hearings and heard testimony from residents and experts from around the country on two bills: the Save Women's Sports Act and the SAFE (Saving Adolescents from Experimentation) Act. Both of these bills were consolidated into House Bill 68. Ohio Value Voters provided written testimony on both.

The Save Women’s Sports Act would prohibit biological men from competing in women’s sports. HB 61 Stover Proponent

The SAFE Act would prohibit extreme radical mutilation experimentation surgery on children. HB68 Stover Proponent

On December 29, 2023, after the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill 68 by a super-majority, the Governor vetoed the bill. While the Governor attempted to rationalize his veto decision, his arguments were without merit. He failed to mention anything regarding the need to protect girls' sports from biological males in his two-page statement. When it came to the SAFE Act, the Governor suggests that, “I believe we can address a number of goals in Substitute House Bill 68 by administrative rules…”

There are issues with “administrative rules.” Administrative rules can be changed by a current and/or future Governor. The leadership of the House and Senate should not consider this proposal as an option from the Governor.

The Governor claims to have researched this matter prior to making his decision to veto House Bill 68. An excellent summary regarding the issues related to sex reassignment surgery was provided by The Heritage Foundation. Sex Reassignment Doesn’t Work. Here Is the Evidence. | The Heritage Foundation In this report, it was reported that those who had reconstruction surgery (removal of sex organs) were 20 times more likely to commit suicide than the national average.

Chole Cole, a young 15-year-old girl, that had her breasts removed and de-transitioned back to her original gender, appeared on Fox News. She discussed a Zoom meeting she attended and spoke with the Governor. Detransitioner blasts GOP governor’s veto of ban on gender-affirming care for minors: ‘Complicit’ in this (foxnews.com)

Also, contact your State Representative LINK and Senator LINK and urge their vote to override the Governor's veto of House Bill 68. If you have a democrat representative or senator, your call most likely will be a waste of time. All democrats serving in the Ohio General Assembly, who were present, voted against the bill.
