It’s time to begin the certification process for 2025!

It's incredibly important not to postpone completing certifications this year. To sell Medicare Advantage plans during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), you must first complete an annual Medicare and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) training program (like AHIP or NABIP) that complies with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines. This training is essential for you to understand the basics of Medicare and stay up to date with the latest CMS regulations. After passing the AHIP certification, you can proceed to complete the carrier certifications as they become available.

Do not delay certifications to obtain early access to information regarding the new CMS guidelines, Inflation Reduction Act - Part D Redesign, expected 2025 plan/benefit changes, enrollment materials, and potential AEP opportunities.

AHIP Certification Cost

The cost of the 2025 AHIP certification is $175. Use the TLC link to receive a $50 discount and pay $125.

To those of you who experienced payment issues yesterday - AHIP reported that they are no longer seeing failures in the check-out process. They will continue to monitor this closely and will notify TLC if it arises again.

2025 AHIP FAQ

Certification Format and Requirements

The AHIP test consists of two parts:

1. Medicare Training: This part covers the basics of Medicare eligibility and benefits, types of MA and PDP plans, CMS marketing guidelines, and enrollment procedures.

  • The final exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You have two hours to complete it with a passing score of 90% or higher.
  • AHIP allows three attempts to pass the final exam. If all three attempts are unsuccessful, you can re-enroll and purchase another three attempts.
  • It's important to note that many carriers do not accept three failures in a given year and may prohibit agents from selling their product during that plan year.

2. Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) Training: This part covers the impacts of Medicare FWA, how to detect it, and proper reporting.

The AHIP final exams (Medicare and FWA) are open-book tests, allowing the use of notes, saved/printed training modules, and quizzes.

Preparing To Pass

1. Complete All Training Modules: Thoroughly review each section's training modules and quizzes as they are essential study tools. Even if you have passed the test in previous years, it's important to refresh your knowledge and stay informed, as Medicare rules and regulations can change annually. Click here to download the training modules.

2. Take Notes: Organize written notes or save them in a searchable format, like a PDF (use Ctrl+f to search the document), so you can easily reference them during the test.

3. Practice Quizzes: Many questions from the review quizzes may appear on the final exam. Focus on these during your study sessions.

4. Read the questions: Take the time to read and understand each question. Some questions may include a word or phrase that may change your answer, like "select all the apply."

Following this advice can increase your chances of successfully passing the 2025 AHIP certification exams.

Post-Exam Procedures

If you do not pass on your first attempt, review the areas you found difficult before trying again.

  • There is no required waiting period for retaking the exam.
  • Feel free to contact your direct upline manager or TLC's support team for guidance.

Once you pass, download and save the certificate of completion for your records. You can also send it to your upline manager and TLC to be stored in your agent profile.

  • Now, it’s time to start the carrier certification process! You must complete certifications for each carrier offering Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug plans you wish to sell for the 2025 plan year.
  • Each carrier has a specific date for opening their 2025 certification. Monitor your email for this communication.
