OPTICS AND LASERS AT CSU!
Thursday, September 3, 4:00 - 5:15 PM
CPIA FALL QUARTERLY MEETING
Colorado State University (CSU) research and breakthroughs have been making headlines lately with their work in optics and lasers. From cancer detection to faster computing, the work of professors and researchers in CSU's Electrical Engineering, Lasers and Optical Engineering Concentration, are making a difference.
CSU PANELISTS
Dr. Jesse Wilson's research focuses on leveraging ultrafast and nonlinear optical phenomena for microscopic imaging contrast, with a specific focus on cancer imaging, molecules that are otherwise indistinguishable with linear techniques. Dr. Wilson recently received the Faculty Early Career Development award from the National Science Foundation for his work to improve the diagnosis and treatment of devastating mitochondrial diseases.
Dr. Carmen Menoni's research unites both materials and optical sciences. One of her current projects involves using lasers that produce extreme ultraviolet light of a very short wavelength to develop microscopes that can see very small features. Another major project involves developing optical coatings for high powered lasers. She is also founder and CEO of XUV Lasers. Dr. Menoni is also president of IEEE Photonics Society
Dr. Jeff Field is the Dir. of the Center for Imaging at Surface Science, an Asst. Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a Research Scientist in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Field received his PhD in physics from the CO School of Mines, studying ultrafast optics and quantum coherent control applied to multiphoton microscopy. His current work explores novel optical microscopy techniques for super-resolved 3D imaging deep in scattering tissues.
