The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting a National Study on sheep and lamb health, encouraging participation from 4,940 sheep producers. Participants have the option to submit biological samples for testing, including fecal samples for parasites and microbes. Results are confidential and will be shared with respondents.
With over five million sheep and lambs in the U.S., the study aims to provide insights into current health and management practices, building on data from previous studies in 1996, 2001, and 2011. To participate, contact Natalie.J.Urie@usda.gov or visit the NAHMS program page. Surprising facts about sheep, such as the top three states in sheep inventory (Texas, California, and Colorado) and lambing practices, are revealed in the article.
