Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

Ending the COVID-19 Pandemic and Supporting our Healthcare Workers

This week, House Republicans brought to the floor legislation that demands an immediate end to President Biden’s COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, requires federal employees return to the office, and terminates the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in federally funded facilities.

I was proud to vote to force the federal government to confirm what we already know – the pandemic is over. After two years of authoritarian lockdowns due to Democrats’ COVID-19 power grab, I am proud to restore our Constitutional rights and freedoms.

This authoritarian power grab cost not only hundreds of billions of dollars of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars, but our children missed out on critical development due to school closures and mask mandates and over 15,000 of New York’s seniors and unnecessarily died because of Cuomo’s deadly nursing home order. In my district, the prolonged closure of the Northern Border and forced vaccine mandates on travelers hurt our small businesses, kept families from reuniting, and hindered our tourism industry.

I also voted to put an end to unconstitutional COVID-19 vaccine mandates on our healthcare workers, which are attacking the personal freedoms of our frontline workers and exacerbating staffing shortages at hospitals and healthcare centers. Additionally, just like hardworking Americans, federal workers should be required to show up to work. It is unacceptable that failed pandemic policies have forced families in NY-21 to wait due to federal agencies’ backlogs, which is why I was proud to vote to pass the SHOW UP Act.

House Republicans are committed to a future that is built on freedom, and today we are righting the wrong that two years of authoritarian lockdowns and mandates have forced on the American people.

Standing up for Milk Choice in Schools

Let our New York students drink chocolate milk! This week, I reintroduced the Protecting School Milk Choices Act, which would ensure schools participating in the National School Lunch Program offer students at least one flavored milk option. After New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ proposal to ban flavored milk in New York City schools, I led this effort to prevent local limitations on flavored milk in the federal school lunch program in order to preserve the choices of schools and students

Our dairy farmers in Upstate New York and the North Country work hard to produce nutritious milk for our communities, and I am proud to lead legislation to ensure a variety of milk choices for our school children. Any effort of Mayor Adams to ban chocolate milk and replace it with vegan juice is an absolute non-starter and will be opposed by parents, families, kids, and New Yorkers. Instead of taking away milk choices from students, my bill will give them better access to essential dairy nutrients critical for their development, and I will continue to lead the effort to protect real dairy products in schools for the sake of our kids.

Protecting U.S. Agriculture from China

Food security is national security, and I am proud to stand up against our foreign adversaries as they attempt to exploit any potential vulnerability and assert control over our agriculture industry. The United States cannot allow malign ownership bids of American assets by China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea to undermine the efforts of our farmers, whose hard work feeds and fuels our communities.

As a response to reports of China threatening America’s food supply by acquiring U.S. farmland and agriculture companies, this bill will ensure the United States Department of Agriculture is fully involved in reviewing our foreign adversaries’ acquisition of American companies that may affect our agriculture sector. The United States cannot cede any ownership of our food supply to those who are actively working against our security interests.

Holding Canada Accountable and Establishing Favorable Dairy Trade

I am proud to announce that, following my advocacy, USTR is continuing to work to ensure our dairy farmers will receive well-deserved access to the Canadian dairy market.

USTR announced that it is establishing a second panel to determine whether Canada has been in violation of its market access obligations under the agreement. Our dairy farmers work hard to provide delicious and nutritious products for our communities and deserve the expanded market access they were promised as part of USMCA. I will continue to work to ensure Canada fully abides by its dairy market access commitments and advocate for results for Upstate dairy farmers.

Announcing my State of the Union Guest

I am proud to announce Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith from Fort Plain will be my honored guest for this year’s State of the Union address in our nation’s Capitol next Tuesday. Sheriff Smith and countless other members of law enforcement are on the frontlines every day protecting our communities and fighting against the crises caused by Joe Biden’s failed policies. The American people deserve a government with the same dedication to public safety, and House Republicans are leading the charge to hold the Biden Administration accountable for its crises and deliver on our commitment to create a nation that is safe.

My Statement on Kathy Hochul’s Budget

This week, Kathy Hochul released her $227 billion Far Left budget for New York State. She has once again given New York the most expensive budget in its history proven her priorities are not for the citizens of New York. In the midst of New York’s violent crime crisis, she is refusing to fully end failed bail reform. In pursuit of her unconstitutional gun-grabbing agenda, she is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to shred New Yorkers’ Second Amendment rights. She is doubling down on more Far Left Green New Deal policies, including advancing her radical gas stove ban, which is not for hardworking families in Upstate New York and the North Country, whose pocketbooks are already bearing the brunt of Hochul’s energy war.

Hochul’s priorities are clearly out of touch with hardworking New Yorkers, which is made even more clear with the more than $1 billion increase to support the wave of illegal immigrants in New York City with taxpayer dollars over the needs of New York families, which will further incentivize illegal immigration to New York.

New York communities are already suffering because of failed policies from Albany, and Kathy Hochul has only proven she is committed to making them worse. I will work tirelessly in the new Republican majority in Congress to provide a critical check on Hochul’s failed policies on behalf of hardworking families in Upstate New York and the North Country.
