Letter from the CEO
Dear Friend,

True to the season, our spring was marked by new growth. As we began our 100th year, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our expansion and name change to YWCA Northern New Jersey.

We have our supporters to thank for our first 100 years of service, and as our Centennial kicks off, we are energized to move forward together for our next 100 years of impact. This includes deepening our mission in our home county of Bergen while bringing vital new programs to additional northern New Jersey counties such as Essex, Hudson, Morris, and Passaic. Thanks for your patience as we apply our new name and branding to all our communications. As we shared during our May press conference, we expect to complete the process by fall.

Our full team is now housed at our new headquarters located at 214 State Street, Hackensack. As we prepared for our move, our work to eliminate racism, empower women, support survivors, and raise awareness didn’t slow down for a minute.

We helped dismantle barriers to equality with Undoing Racism training, empowered women to be their own advocates in a Courageous Conversation about birthing in communities of color, honored leaders tacking racism with our Racial Justice Awards, and amplified young voices with the publication of our Voices literary journal on the theme No Hate, No Fear.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month included important prevention presentations, film screenings, Traveling Clothesline Projects, and Denim Days as well as an Enlightened Coffee House for survivors and Title IX workshops for college administrators thanks to funding from New Jersey State Bar Foundation.

We supported corporate women and women entrepreneurs with our WEN on the GO! workshops and helped seniors stay engaged and healthy with our Fitness & Friendship Fridays wellness workshops and Orange Sneakers walking groups.

We celebrated extraordinary community leaders at our annual Gala, connected with our amazing Legacy Ladies who bridge our past and future, and recognized our dedicated healingSPACE volunteers.

We are so proud of the work we have done together, and all that we will continue to do. We hope you enjoy looking back at our accomplishments from April through June 2019 in this quarterly newsletter.
