{The Press Release}

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to announce its second solo exhibition of Yolanda Snchez's paintings at the Chelsea gallery.

Yolanda Snchez's newest series of works are reflective of the place between the internal and the external and an expression of the liminality of life's most precious experiences. The works are organic, the paint fluid and expressive, and utilize color and form to emphasize the joy of exploration and play within the everyday. Snchez's exercises in color are as significant as the space-traditionally designated "the negative"-she leaves blank, and which she calls a "positive presence", in an effort to "achieve a sensual, visual pleasure".

A great deal of Snchez's work draws from and refers to nature, but is not, however, directly representative of it. She does not attempt to recreate the world around us, but utilizes painting as a means to become more finely tuned to it. The resultant work is wildly expressive, creating an experience unique to each individual viewer, a magical experience often taken for granted in our day to day lives, but emphasized through Snchez's masterful manipulation of paint and canvas.

Yolanda Snchez was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1960. She obtained a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1979. Yolanda is a Fulbright scholar. Later she acquired her BFA and subsequently, an MFA from Yale University, where she studied with British painter John Walker. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and her work is included in many public and private collections including the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Jacksonville, Florida and the Neiman Marcus Corporate Headquarters in Dallas, Texas. Currently, Snchez lives and works in Miami Beach, Florida.        twitter
