This Month at CLC: June 2022
A Focused Path Forward for CLC
Ellen Paul, Executive Director

On behalf of the CLC Board of Trustees, I am thrilled to present to you our new two year strategic plan. The work on this plan started over a year ago, pausing when former Executive Director Jennifer Keohane announced her retirement. I was so pleased to continue the work when I came on board in January.

In this strategic plan, I hope you will see a focused and determined path forward for CLC. We’ve simplified our mission statement, clarified our vision, and amplified our beliefs.

We heard members when they told us that saving money through collective negotiation was their top priority. We also heard that connecting with colleagues and increasing library promotion and advocacy were of high concern. I believe you will see those priorities clearly outlined in this plan.

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that the next two years are incredibly important to ensuring the secure financial future for the Connecticut Library Consortium. With this plan, we are committed to developing a sustainable and fiscally responsible future for this organization.
The full plan is available here, but I invite you to join our incoming Board of Trustees Chairperson Kim McNally and me at one of our strategic plan information sessions. We would love to tell you more about how this plan came to be, what we heard from our members, and what we’re planning for the next two years. This is your library consortium; please join us. Because as always, we're stronger together.

Ellen

ANNUAL MEETING RECAP
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our 19th annual meeting earlier this month. While we ended up gathering on Zoom instead of in person at the Scranton Library in Madison, we appreciated the opportunity to connect and to conduct the business of the organization with so many dedicated library representatives! CLC members voted on dues rates for next year (unchanged from this year) and a budget, and extended terms for 2 members of the board of trustees. Attendees were among the first to hear about CLC's new strategic plan, and State Librarian Deborah Schander gave an update on all of the exciting initiatives happening at the State Library. Our keynote speaker, Representative Joe Courtney (CT-2), covered topics of particular interest to librarians, including the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, obtaining American Rescue Plan funds for library projects, and IMLS funding. Rep. Courtney's full remarks are available here. Our next meeting will be our 20th anniversary - clear your calendar for June 2023!
HAIL TO THE CHAIRS
Jason Pannone is Head of Reference & Cultural Assets Manager at the East Hartford Public Library, and for the past year he has served as chair of the CLC Board of Trustees. Jason's busy tenure at the helm of our organization included hiring a new executive director and launching a new strategic plan. With his warm, positive, easy-going style and willingness to say "yes," he made a difficult job seem effortless. We are so grateful to Jason, and glad he will be continuing on this year as past chair.
At our recent annual meeting, Jason handed the gavel to incoming chair Kim McNally, director of the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library. Kim has only been in Connecticut for a few years, and we're so glad she stopped at our booth at the 2019 CLA conference and decided to become involved right away! Kim has already distinguished herself as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and we're grateful that she'll be at the helm for our 20th year. Many thanks to all of our dedicated board members for giving so freely of their time and talents.
