Illegal Demolition of Historic
San Ysidro Hotel

Jack Gechter of the Friends of San Ysidro very recently alerted SOHO that the early 20th-century San Ysidro Hotel, 133 W. San Ysidro Boulevard, was illegally demolished in late June 2023.

Historic Tijuana Depot Being Restored

At last, the Tijuana railroad depot is being restored. The now-empty 1930s train station is a classical style, wood-framed building with a stucco finish and a 1947 addition creating more office space, a bigger warehouse, and installing a safe. Recently, I have been researching the site’s original plans at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, California, with the help of museum historian Bruce Semelsberger.

New Mobile App Enhances
State Park Visits
California State Parks recently launched a mobile app that features the historic multicultural people, places, and events of nine state parks, including Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
