D-Clearance and Registration Information

The Spring 2025 schedule of classes is available for review. https://classes.usc.edu/


  • October 28, 2024 Spring 2025 Registration begins
  • January 10, 2025 Last day to register and settle without a late fee
  • January 13, 2025 Spring semester classes begin
  • January 31, 2025 Last day to add or drop courses

D-Clearance Reminders


All DEN@Viterbi courses require departmental clearance (d-clearance) before you can register via the Web Registration system. All d-clearance requests must be submitted using the d-clearance request manager form on myviterbi.

Registration Information


Registration for the Spring 2025 semester begins on October 28, 2024


We will begin reviewing and issuing d-clearances on October 28th. Please refer to the chart below for detailed information regarding d-clearance issuing dates.

Degree Program

DEN D-clearance Issuing Date

For DEN students in AME, ASTE, SAE, BME, CEE, CSCI, DSCI, ECE, ISE, and MORK:

October 28, 2024

For students not in a CSCI/DSCI degree program but would like to enroll in a CSCI/DSCI course:

December 2024

D-clearance Issuing Timeline


  • Our office will process d-clearance requests within 1-2 business days. 
  • Once your D-clearance request has been issued, you can then register for the course via web registration. DEN sections have DEN@Viterbi under the location section. For instructions on how to register, here is the link: https://arr.usc.edu/services/registration/webregistration.html#Register
  • Check your account for HOLDS before registration.


Prerequisite Waivers 


  • If you request D-Clearance for a course with a prerequisite and have not completed the prerequisite requirement, Please connect with your academic department for more information. 
  • Prerequisite information can be found in the University Catalogue or the Schedule of Classes.



Expired D-clearance


D-clearances are valid for 7 business days. After 7 business days, your request will expire, and registration will no longer be possible.

  • You must resubmit your d-clearance request via the D-clearance Request Manager to reinstate your course d-clearance.
  • Course availability is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to register while you have an active d-clearance.


Academic Advisement


Review the registration information that your academic department emailed before registering. If you have questions regarding your degree requirements or course options, please contact your academic department graduate advisor.

Semester Payment 



Tuition and class fees are assessed at the time of registration and due when billed, regardless of class start date(s). Please visit the Student Financial Services website for information about the settlement of your student account.

Students can also attend the weekly VGASP virtual drop-in hours hosted every Monday-Wednesday from 10 am to 12 pm PST via zoom. You can find more information on the Viterbi Academic Advisement website: https://viterbigrad.usc.edu/academic-advisement/.
