This morning I had a great conversation with Steve Clifford, pastor of Westgate Church in San Jose. Even though he's a Cowboys fan, Steve is an easy guy to talk to. In the conversation, neither one of us could avoid the foreboding sense that this world is unraveling before our very eyes. And for the first time in human history - thanks to our, always reliable, 24/7 news feeds - every single image bearer (theology talk for, pretty much everyone) has a front row seat.
With everything that is going on, 2020 will be a year absolutely no one forgets. With COVID-19, conspicuous racial injustice, the violence in the streets and an election year that - I’m just spit-balling here - none of us is looking forward to, it seems that folks don’t know which way to turn. It's at the point where several of the more dispensational may want to dust off their eschatological chart to see if killer wasps are mentioned. The word Steve used to describe our time was, “confusion.” I agree.
Something else in which we agree (I’m sure you do as well) - the Gospel of Jesus Christ as expressed through his bride, the Church, is the only hope this confused world has. That’s why I’m excited that Steve will be our next Zoom guest this
Tuesday, June 9, at 1:00PM
.
As always, the conversation will be a tad organic but, for me, I look forward to hearing from Steve as well as you regarding effective ways our churches can shepherd folks who are knee deep in the confusion.
I’d love for you to join us."
