Throwback Thursday!

Celebrating 30 Years of Field Courses

One of the best things about celebrating our 30th year is going back through old photos and hearing stories from the early days of WRFI. This photo shows a student on our winter Ecology course in the '90's! We have many more photos to share between now and the big celebration in July, but if you have any others to add to our collection, or a story you'd like to share, please respond to this newsletter and let us know! It's an honor and a joy to collect memories from those who have made these 30 years possible - YOU!

On the Road in Colorful Colorado!

WRFI's Recruiting Season Continues in the Centennial State

Spring is an exciting time for the office staff at WRFI as we get prepared for our courses for the year and travel the country in search of excited, engaged students to join us! Over the next two weeks, we'll be visiting campuses across Colorado to do just that. If you are a student, alumnus, faculty or community member at any of the following schools and want to connect, or know someone who might, please reach out to kimberly@wrfi.net and let her know!

3/4-5: Western Colorado University

3/6-7: University of Colorado Colorado Springs

Featured Course: Montana Afoot and Afloat

Human/Land Relations

63 Field Days | 15 Semester Credits | $14,995

Fall 2024: August 25 - October 26, 2024

Gain a holistic picture of Montana’s landscapes, ecosystems, and geography by tracing the path of water in Montana’s dramatic landscape from headwaters high up in the mountains to flood plains in valleys that host important wildlife and communities alike. Students on this course will gain an integrated understanding of future, past, and present relationships between the human communities and landscapes that characterize Montana’s rich and diverse geography and is designed to give students the experiences and academic background to formulate a personal land ethic – that is, a vision of a wise and beneficial way to relate to the land. Montana Afoot and Afloat is WRFI's flagship course and remains a community favorite. Join us this fall and spend the semester living and learning on the land!

"WRFI introduced and immersed me in environments, cultures and mindsets that I’ve never been exposed to before, but that now shape how I observe the world. It instilled in me a new view of the world, and a new view of myself. The people we met, places we visited, and concepts we learned will stay with me always, and forever inspire me to continue a life in search of new knowledge and adventures."

-Sarah Bartz, Northern Michigan University

*Important Scholarship Note*

Montana Afoot and Afloat students are eligible for WRFI's Matt Thomas Scholarship, which awards students between $1,000-$3,000 in remembrance of our co-founder Matt, whom we lost in 2002 but whose memory lives on in the course he designed, instructed, and so loved. If you are joining us for Montana Afoot and Afloat this fall, don't miss the opportunity to apply! More information can be found here!
