Adaptive reuse strategy for new public works facility saves nearly $30 million

The Village Board approved construction bids to begin remodel construction work for the future Buffalo Grove Public Works facility at 1650 Leider Lane. By using an adaptive reuse strategy of an existing building, the Village will be able to deliver a modern facility at the lowest possible cost, saving nearly $30 million.

A 2017 facility space needs assessment identified a larger and modernized facility for Public Works operations as a top priority. The new 173,000-square foot facility will provide enough space to accommodate PW operations now and well into the future. All engineering, equipment and maintenance functions will be under one roof, with ample space for offices, workshops, an Emergency Operations Center, vehicle wash and more. During remodeling and relocation, BGPW will continue operating out of its current facility at 51 Raupp Boulevard.

You can view a virtual tour of the new facility here.

Explore BG's natural areas for Pollinator Week

It's Pollinator Week and the perfect time to highlight BG's proud support of pollinators. With beautiful summer weather here to stay, get out and explore the natural areas that our Public Works team works hard to maintain. These native, diverse ecosystems benefit pollinators, manage stormwater and control erosion. Bonus: these natural sites generally cost less to maintain compared to turf grasses and planting beds, plus they add visual interest to areas and have many other ecological and functional benefits. Learn more and view a full map of BG's natural areas here.
