We will continue to honor social distancing. Service will begin at 9 am, weather permitting. Beginning Sunday, September 6 car church will be held weekly at 9 am.

Upper Room Devotionals for September/October are available at the front doors of the church. Feel free to stop by and pick up a copy for yourself and one to share with a friend.

A BIG thank you to the congregation for the donations of food for the Carthage Food Pantry. We collected well over 200 items. Along with the Thrivent grant, we shared close to 500 items for hungry families in Moore County. Thanks also to Andy Scherer who picked up all that food and delivered it!

OPENING WORD

Psalm 138

1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
  before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down toward your holy temple
  and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
  for you have exalted your name and your word
  above everything.[a]
3 On the day I called, you answered me,
  you increased my strength of soul.[b]
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,
  for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
  for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly;
  but the haughty he perceives from far away.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
  you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
  and your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
  your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
  Do not forsake the work of your hands.
OPENING HYMN

"God Will Take Care of You"
Torin Wright & Darlene Skinner
1. Be not dismayed whate’er betide, God will take care of you; beneath his wings of love abide, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, through every day, o’er all the way; he will take care of you, God will take care of you.

2. Through days of toil when heart doth fail, God will take care of you; when dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, through every day, o’er all the way; he will take care of you, God will take care of you.

3. All you may need he will provide, God will take care of you; nothing you ask will be denied, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, through every day, o’er all the way; he will take care of you, God will take care of you.

4. No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you; lean, weary one, upon his breast, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, through every day, o’er all the way; he will take care of you, God will take care of you.

SCRIPTURE LESSON

Matthew 14:13-21

Feeding the Five Thousand
13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. 15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 Jesus said to them, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” 17 They replied, “We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.” 18 And he said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

"A Day in the Life: A Meal with the 5,000"
by Pastor David

Join us for our current sermon series, A Day in the Life, as we explore one of the most significant, memorable days in Jesus' life. From hearing of the death of his cousin, to feeding 5,000 men and their families, to walking on water, Jesus had quite the day- and God was with him through it all.
FINAL HYMN

"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
Torin Wright & Darlene Skinner
1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon, and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
