PRELUDE

"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee"
Darlene Skinner
SILENCE

Set a timer for 5 minutes and use a breath prayer.
On the inhale, mentally say: “Speak...”
On the exhale: "...I am listening."
OPENING WORD (Psalm 24)

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation. Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors that the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.
OPENING HYMN

"Thy Word Is a Lamp"
Torin Wright & Darlene Skinner
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid,
Think I've lost my way,
Still you're right here beside me,
And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
My heart forever is wandering.
Jesus, be my guide
And hold me to your side,
And I will love you to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

SCRIPTURE LESSON

1 Samuel 3:1-10

Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread.
At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room;  the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.  Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!” [ a ] and he said, “Here I am!”  and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.  The Lord called again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”  Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.  The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.  Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

MESSAGE

"Samuel's Call"
by Katie Tomlin

Today we continue with our sermon series that explores the life of the prophet Samuel—the last judge of Israel. Throughout the course of his life, Samuel had the power to both make and break kings. Samuel’s birth was a miracle, his life was an adventure, and his voice still speaks to us today. Join us through the month of July as we look again at the amazing story of Hannah’s child.
FINAL HYMN

"Seek Ye First"
Torin Wright & Darlene Skinner
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
And His righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you
Allelu, Alleluia!

Ask and it shall be given unto you
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and the door shall be opened unto you
Allelu, Alleluia!
CLOSING PRAYER
Almighty God, you stand with us in the darkness and you call each of us by name. Help us to be good listeners when your voice is speaking to our hearts. Give us clarity and knowledge; give us ears to hear your voice. Here we are. We have heard you calling in the night, and we will go where you lead us, so that all your children will hear the message you have for them. We pray all these things be done in the name of Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
