Fall is upon us, the leaves are quickly changing, the geese are heading south – and that means improved band conditions, great low-band DX, and the arrival of contest season!
There is a lot to cover in this newsletter as we have been in top gear making improvements, adding new stations, and developing the most beautiful remote operating experience on the planet.
When I look back over the past seven years of RHR, it's quite amazing how far we have come and what has been accomplished. We are extremely proud of our service and all that have supported and encouraged us along the way.
I wish all our readers, members, vendors and the RHR team a healthy and prosperous 2019/2020 DX season, thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

Adding to the already installed pair of A3s's (one fixed to EU, the other fixed to US), an additional tower has been installed with a 5 Element 6m Yagi and a 5 band 10m-20m Yagi on a rotator. Probably the best radio QTH in the northern hemisphere at 6,300' ASL with immediate drop-offs in all directions. Experiencing being the "DX" from this location never gets old! We still have more plans to expand this location and possibly offer some more unique experiences here.

The RHR development team has been digging deep into the FlexRadio architecture and has come out the other side with the next generation of remote operating. With nothing more than a web browser, an operator can instantly connect to any RHR mega station using our amazing WebDX technology and be presented with a mesmerizing fully scalable, clickable and draggable panadapter!
Support for external equipment like the Flex Maestro and SmartSDR software will be supported very soon. We are currently in the testing phases, so we are looking for existing RHR members who have experience with FlexRadios and a Maestros in the shack.
Some of the major advantages of the new SDR platform:
- The ability to "see" the DX and your surroundings
- Super easy setup of digital modes (FT8, FT4, RTTY etc)
- Maestro support for local VFO, knobs and CW key/paddle
- Connect your local logging software to remote radio
- WSJT works perfectly
- Support for SmartSDR, SmartDAX and SmartCAT
- No SmartLink account required
- Can instantly switch from WebDX to SmartSDR/Maestro

Multi-Tiered Connection Pricing
|
|
With our ongoing quest to offer more access at lower prices, we have incorporated multi-tiered pricing along with a new "RX Only" option at super low rates.
Maybe you just want to listen to something while you are in the shack or check to see if that DX spot is making it? You can connect to any RHR site at reduced rates for RX only, as well as 100 W connections.
RX-only rates start at just $0.03/min!

There have been many new features and changes to the console over the past months and one of the most popular is "Dark Mode". You can change different themes by going to "Console Settings" in the station list then check out the "Console Theme" menu item.

We hope you enjoyed the fall newsletter. This is only the "the big stuff" while there is so much more that happens behind the scenes everyday at RHR. We push new updates, bug fixes and enhancements around the clock to the operators console, many of these updates the operator can see and many to further harden the RHR infrastructure. Here are just a few in recent weeks.
- Adding color theme for users with Deuteranopia or Protanopia
- Added option to collapse the site list sidebar, which is replaced with a dropdown menu at the top
- Added ability to mark a site as a favorite
- When selecting a digital mode from the VFO presets, the radio is automatically configured for best operation (4 kHz BW, COMP 0, etc.)
- Fixing menu display on small screens, so options aren't shoved off-screen
- Adding warning popup for RHR iOS app (use Safari on iOS, instead!)
- Making sure correct audio devices are used when connecting via WebDX
- Adding button to edit CW macros, and Console Settings to side bar
- Various UI tweaks and fixes on mobile devices (more improvements to come with those pesky menus!)
- Enabling one additional contact to be logged after disconnecting from a site. This should help if you forgot to log it before disconnecting, or if you were inadvertently disconnected
- Replacing Ctrl-Number with Function keys to send CW and phone macros
- Adding menu to change VFO style (knobs, buttons, or slider) right on the console
- Adding VFO speed control (fine, normal, and coarse tuning)
- Adding VFO reverse button - click and hold to temporarily swap A and B
- Adding mobile Safari support (no more iOS app required!! )
- Revamping audio device menu
We continue to push remote technology, new innovation and operator experience. There are many more "big news items" in the works that are coming this fall/winter, stay tuned!
