2021 Annual Meeting
Plans for our spring 2021 Virtual Conference are underway, with both traditional and new session formats. All conference sessions will be recorded and available for registrants to view for 30 days following the conference.

There will be six conference days, consisting of three 90-minute sessions per day, taking place over two weeks during April 2021:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 13–15, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 20–22, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT

The submission portal for Virtual 2021 will open on Monday, 16 November 2020. The deadline for all submissions will be Tuesday, December 15.

Online Symposium
We hope you will join the RSA and Fordham University for a special online symposium, Plagues, Pandemics, and Outbreaks of Disease in History. The virtual event will be held 13 November 2020 and is open to the public.

They symposium aims to develop and review specific ways to incorporate the historical understanding of disease outbreak into the teaching curriculum at colleges and secondary schools. This symposium is co-sponsored by Fordham University's Center for Medieval Studies, and the Departments of Art History and Music, Classics, and History.

Applications are now open for the RSA Digital Innovation Award. Submissions are due by 30 November 2020 and the award of $600 will be conferred at the RSA 2021 Annual Meeting that is being held virtually.

This award recognizes excellence in digital projects that support the study of the Renaissance (13001700). Projects will be evaluated on content, usability, and thoughtful implementation of technology.

Board Member Awarded
UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship
Congratulations to RSA board member Hannah Murphy for being awarded the UK Research and Innovation’s prestigious Future Leaders Fellowship. Murphy will receive £1.4m for her winning project, Medicine and the Making of Race, 1440–1720. The project will develop a global prehistory of race through the lens of medical encounters and practices of enslaved and free Black Africans forcibly transported during the African slave trade. The RSA Graduate Student Advisory Committee is pleased to launch the Online Graduate Student Lightning Talk Series with its inaugural session, “Expanding the Renaissance,” taking place 3 December 2020 from 12:00–1:30 p.m. EST. We invite the Renaissance studies community to join us online and engage with graduate students presenting on topics, sources, or methodologies that are commonly excluded or overlooked from mainstream narratives.

Submissions due 15 November 2020 for a volume of essays about copies in any aspect of Renaissance culture and civilization.

Maintaining the Presence of the Prince: Management of Royal Geographies (1300–1900)
Submissions due 23 November 2020 for this international symposium highlighting the way royal spaces were maintained from a transnational and diachronic perspective.

Questioning the Crime of Witchcraft: Definitions, Receptions, and Realities
Submissions due 30 November 2020 for this May 2021 conference revolving around the definition of the crime of witchcraft, its different receptions, and the question of its reality.

Ut Pictura Medicina? Visual Arts and Medicine
Submissions due 15 December 2020 for this November 2021 conference co-sponsored by the University of Salzburg and the Mozarteum University.

Iconography and Religious Otherness
Submissions due 15 January 2021 for the Fifteenth International Conference of Iconographic Studies being held in Rijeka, Croatia, in June 2021.

Call for Applications
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Diversity in Digital Publishing
Applications are now open for a fellow at the Brown University Library who will focus on projects relating to the history and experience of oppressed or marginalized peoples. $60,000 stipend plus benefits.
