From the Desk of Fr. Mike Nacius, Pastor

Earlier this month Cardinal Cupich called leadership across the Archdiocese to a two day Renew My Church Summit. Our Cardinal sent a follow-up letter to leadership across our Archdiocese stating; "Our time together was truly a graced moment as we listened, discussed, and envisioned as one Body in Christ a bold future for our Catholic communities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Upon seeing so many priests, deacons, religious, and lay leaders engaged in the work of strengthening our local Church, I am filled with great hope and enthusiasm for our future together.
"Now as we move forward together in the Spirit to renew ourselves, our parishes, and our Archdiocese we do so by taking up a three-fold mantle of prayer, preparation, and practice. Prayer is the foundation for all conversion, and a commitment to intentional prayer for renewal is our starting point. Preparation follows and can manifest itself in a number of ways with the help of forthcoming resources provided by our
Renew My Church
(RMC) team. As we pray and prepare together, we must practice what was preached the past two days by engaging others and recalling them to their baptismal rite to be co-workers of missionary discipleship.
"The Holy Spirit is at work among us. It is He who leads us, walks with us, and ensures that none are lost along the path of renewal. Let us "rejoice and be glad" that God's plans for us are greater than any we could design on our own."
Our Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Staff are discussing ways that we can keep the Spirit and energy of the summit alive in our meetings and ministries. We will be sharing with the parish opportunities to "pray, prepare, and practice" on a personal and local level the spirit and focus of
Renew My Church
. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, an openness to the Holy Spirit, and a willingness to be led by the Holy Spirit, the
Renew My Church
process will touch hearts and lead people of faith closer to Jesus. Let's pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit in our parishes and local Church as we move forward.

We are asking that the bottles be returned to St. Mary's next weekend, October 20 and 21. Thanks for your generous support.
This year parishioners are reflecting on and studying the Gospel of Luke in our Bible Study Program.
The materials being studied in the Bible Study emphasize themes of mercy, salvation offered to all, the action of the Holy Spirit, and preference for the poor or marginalized.
This coming Thursday, October 18, we celebrate the feast of St. Luke. In addition to the Gospel, Luke also wrote the Acts of the Apostles, recording the growth of the first followers of Jesus. May we be open to and blessed by the power of God's word in the Scriptures as an aid to our prayer and our lives of faith. You are invited to attend Mass at 6:30am or
8:00am as we celebrate the Feast of St. Luke.
God bless you with an
Alleluia heart
this day
