RENT DEPARTMENT BACKS DOWN ON TENANTS' PERSONAL DATA

As we told you in an email last month, Pasadena's rent registry is run by 3Di - a company with a history of data breaches. Worse still, the Rent Stabilization Department has gone against both Measure H and the Rent Board's own regulations, by demanding tenants' personal data in the form of housing provider's rent increase notices.

On October 31st - the final deadline for registration - the Director of the Rent Stabilization Department finally acknowledged that there is no legitimate reason to demand this data. However, this was far too late for many housing providers who had been forced to provide tenants' names and addresses.

We attended the Pasadena Rental Housing Board meeting on November 6th to ask why the Rent Stabilization is operating without authority.

To protect your tenants' personal information from 3Di's incompetence and the Rent Stabilization Department's overreach, we recommend that you demand that this data is deleted at once.

Pasadena Housing Providers is considering various options on behalf of owners. Please send us screenshots of any communication in which the Rent Stabilization Department demanded that you upload rent increase notices. Your personal information will be protected.

You may also contact the City Council to ask why the Rent Stabilization Department is setting its own policy while hiding the failures of its rent registry supplier.

RENT REGULATION COVERS ALL RENTALS

Despite activists' claims when they solicited votes for Measure H, the RSD demands registration and a fee of $238 per year for ALL rented houses, condos and ADU's.

Please send us names and email addresses of property owners who would like to be included on our weekly mailing list. We will never share contact info.

In order to restore and protect property rights in Pasadena, we are asking property owners of all types to donate $10 per month per unit. For $120 per unit per year, we can help property owners and tenants in Pasadena enjoy a more sustainable rental housing industry in the decades to come.
