Fuelling Our Business Community
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) allows both businesses and students to benefit. Businesses are able to find staff for those special projects and students are able to gain practical knowledge and skills. Find more information on our WIL website page. You can also contribute your ideas to the Conference Board of Canada's Business + Higher Education Roundtable for expanding these opportunities in Canada.
The Chamber has benefited greatly over the years by hiring students with our Events Coordinator, Kristen Walsh, starting her journey with us as a summer student. Recently, Hannah Dupuis, our Policy and Communications Assistant, finished an 8 month co-op term with us. She has become an essential part of our team and we couldn't have delivered on all our communications without her help these last few months.
Our Board of Directors, including our incoming Directors, attended an orientation. Adjusting to our circumstances we had some virtual attendees and some in person. We couldn't run our organization without individuals who are willing to give generously of their time. Thank you for helping us Fuel our Business Community
Your Weekly Tune Up
Today the Government of Canada announced the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) program will be extended for the month of September. The government also announced this will be the final extension for the CECRA program. More information.

While CECRA has been a lifeline for many main street businesses continuing to experience weaker demand than usual, many more businesses haven’t benefited because of program restrictions or disagreements with landlords. Main street businesses need to know what comes next, and they need to know now. Read the Canadian Chamber statement

A new food directory has been designed to assist community event planners, procurers of food, and those interested in supporting Alberta made foods. Food procurement staff can now easily access details on local/regional and Alberta food producers and processors with the Alberta Food Directories.

The Power of Community
Community Builder Spotlight:
Medicine Hat College
Medicine Hat College has been a dedicated member of our Chamber since 1991. They support our community by serving over 6,000 learners each year. The college has contributed to our region by helping us learn and grow. We are grateful for their commitment to Medicine Hat & District and know that we are a better organization because of their involvement and investment in us. Thank you for being a Community Builder!

Advocacy in Action
The Medicine Hat News will be publishing a special feature five days a week highlighting our restaurants, pubs and food establishments. Here is your opportunity to let everyone know you are open to serve them for dine in, take out, drive thru or delivery service. We want the public to know by supporting you means supporting the community, so Let’s Eat Medicine Hat. Find out more here.
Maintaining Mental Health
Last week Global Suicide Prevention Day was marked in our community and we, very appropriately, received our Canada Life Mental Health Break Box. It's essential that we look out for our work families and find ways to care for and about each other.
