POSITIVE EXPOSURE follows NYC mask guidelines out of respect for attendees.

In partnership with the Sacred Ally Quilt Ministry (SAQM), a 501(c)(3) ministry of the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ, the POSITIVE EXPOSURE Gallery will host a series of quilts memorializing the last words of George Floyd, May 22 – June 10, 2022.

Comprised of ten quilts created by quilters from nine United Church of Christ congregations in New Hampshire, SAQM is a living, moving, breathing symbol and graphic reminder of the 400+ year history of racial injustice.

This exhibition is designed to inspire conversations and anti-racist thinking and action, while concurrently developing solidarity.

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSION

5000 QUILT PROJECT

MONDAY, MAY 23 | 7 - 9 PM ET

14 EAST 1O9TH STREET NYC

The lengthy process of collaborating on a quilt

  • Creates a community of shared purpose
  • Provides a prolonged context for discussion and deep discernment
  • Culminates in a work of art that has powerful symbolic resonance

SAQM would like to take our vision to the next level and inaugurate a new project, "The 5000 Quilt Project."  This effort will engage churches, quilting guilds and schools across the nation to create 5000 quilts -- each memorializing the life (not the death) of an African American individual who was lynched during the troubled history of the United States.

What do we do to make this happen? How do we find partners or funding? Discussions will introduce the idea of the "The 5000 Quilt Project" and actively seek your involvement.
