Reorganization Announcements, Updated Timeline and FAQs
Dear Team DPS,

Last Friday, we shared more information around the new structures for the Offices of Schools, Operations and Talent. This week, we posted several key leadership roles to help us lead our new structures. The interview process for these roles will take place over the next few weeks.

As the development of our new structure progresses, we will have other roles that will need to be posted. As we continue to provide our weekly updates to share information around team designs, please continue to connect with your manager about new roles that will be posted. We encourage each of you to stay tuned to our weekly updates and continue to check the job board for opportunities opening throughout Central Office.

Our culture remains at the top of our minds and helps guide us as we make decisions. We know this continues to be a time of transition, and we want to reassure you that we are working as quickly as possible. We value the voices of our team members and want to bring in different perspectives to help us design the strongest Team DPS possible. We appreciate all the work you continue to do to support our students every day.
Announcements
The Office of the Chief of Staff is dedicated to connecting and listening to the experiences of our students, families, team members and the broader DPS community to inform the work we do and the way we do it. To help us on our mission, we are thrilled to announce the new Executive Director of Communications, Will Jones. Will has been part of DPS Communications for the past seven years, most recently as Director of External Communications. Prior to DPS, he had similar roles at the University of Denver and Denver Botanic Gardens. Will also worked at TV stations across the country as an on-air personality, including here in Denver at both FOX 31 and Kroenke Sports Enterprises. He says that he is thrilled to have this opportunity to lead DPS Communications.

We are also thrilled to announce that Dr. Antoinette Hudson has been selected as the Associate Ombuds. She will work in partnership with Dr. Darlene LeDoux to continue the work of establishing DPS’ Office of the Ombudsman.
Updated Timeline and FAQs
We previously shared that all planned changes for the reorganization will be effective July 1. In alignment with that start date and honoring the need for transition time, we are committed to having all decisions finalized and notifications communicated no later than May 16

We have heard many questions about anticipated severance packages for any employees whose roles have been reduced due to the reorganization. This unbudgeted service-based severance package is in part funded by hiring freeze savings.

  • 0-4 years of service: 15 days of severance
  • 5-9 years of service: 30 days of severance
  • 10+ years of service: 45 days of severance

We have been working on updates to our FAQ page to reflect the questions we heard during our town halls and questions that were submitted to this form. While there are some questions that we are still working to answer, we have posted new information and will continue to do so as decisions are made and information is ready to be shared. The question form will also remain active, so please continue to submit questions for inclusion on the FAQ page as we continue with this work.

We cannot emphasize enough that our power in DPS comes from our people. We appreciate and deeply value the knowledge, expertise and perspectives you bring to our teams. From all of us, thank you.
In Collaboration,

Dr. Alex Marrero, Superintendent
Deborah Staten, Deputy Chief of Staff
Dr. Tony Smith, Deputy Superintendent of Schools
Jim Carpenter, Deputy Superintendent of Operations
Edwin Hudson, Chief of Talent
